When your hairdresser/beauty therapist/osteopath refuses the vaccine ...

Firstly, I just want to say I don't believe in pushing people into having vaccines. It has to be a willing choice. I do personally believe in the effectiveness of the vaccination project and I want to be safe and I want my family to be safe. What would you do if a long standing therapist that comes into very close physical contact with you (and many others) is an anti vaxxer? I'm talking about people that are outstanding at their jobs. Would you keep going to see them?

@ChildrenGrowingUpTooFast and others.
I absolutely hate the attitude on here of "I can't be doing with anti-vaxxers". And questioning people's intelligence without knowing the circumstances.

Life is not completely black and white. (Refuseniks BAD, Vaccine GOOD). Vaccines for different illnesses have made some people ill before . Some people have died shortly after the covid vaccines. Not many , but enough for our government to offer an alternative to AZ for certain demographics and for other countries to deem many of them not yet fully safe. Some people have specific health conditions that might make the vaccine ill advisable. Others may have a fair idea of their likely risk of being admitted to ICU if they caught Covid (fleetingly small in some demographics i.e the under 40s) versus their small chance of an adverse reaction to a vaccine .

It is a fact that the average person under 30 has a miniscule risk of a fatal blood clot from the AZ vaccine for example. But that risk is still a little MORE than the risk of dying of covid in the same under 30 demographic. Hence the UK government offering an alternative to that demographic.

For older people whose risk of suffering badly from covid is far higher, the AZ vaccine is recommended. The risk of clotting is worthwhile because the risk of covid is higher for them.

Before anyone calls me misinformed , or an anti vaxxer, let me say now that I am a medic and my husband is a scientist who synthesises chemical compounds for the treatment of virus and disease. Our friends are in similar industries. We both did have the vaccine, but we deliberated, and there are many knowledgeable people we know who chose not to. Common reasons have been that the long term safety of the vaccines and their effects still aren't known, and also a family history of heart conditions which could be affected by these vaccines.

Ultimately it's a personal decision for each of us to make and personally I doubt the intelligence of anyone who isn't able to see that.

If you are worried about covid and want the vaccine, have it. I did. But why on earth would you be certain that anything on this planet , let alone a new man made vaccine , is so completely safe that you'll scoff at anyone who is unsure ?

@mrsknottschicken

No, I would not. I know it’s not the same thing but I was looking for someone to look after DDog for a week over the summer and thought I’d found a really good lady. I asked what her Covid procedures were and she said she didn’t wear masks, didn’t do social distancing and would not be getting a vaccine. Then I found out she has gone on various anti-lockdown marches and was posting anti-vax stuff on social media. No way would I want to give her my custom and certainly not my dog.
Of course you can give whoever you like your custom but why on earth would you even be asking about "covid procedures" for a dog? Dogs don't get covid. What difference does it make?

@PotassiumChloride

Yes, I would. In fact it wouldn’t even enter my head to ask them whether they’d had it. I’ve had both my jabs, whether they do so is entirely a matter for them.
I find everyone is asking everyone else at the moment. I don't know if it's to find out who those mad anti-vaxxers are, or just a different topic to the weather. But if you are quite young, I guess it's easy enough to say "oh I've not had it yet, I'm booked in in a couple of weeks" and move the conversation on. If you are older I guess it's more difficult unless you just lie.

Had a social call at work the other day as someone was leaving and my boss asked everyone. No idea if she was being nosey or just wanted to know for work reasons. Everyone had had it or was booked in.

Kanaloa · 01/07/2021 08:52

Well I’d probably never know. I never know if my hairdressers/eyebrow lady etc have had the flu jab so I don’t imagine this would come up either.

TheKeatingFive · 01/07/2021 08:55

How would you know? Confused

I doubt I’d give a shit. I didn’t avoid hairdressers before there were vaccines, so why would I now?

SuperstoreFan · 01/07/2021 09:23

Actually I'm sure I read yesterday that Covid-19 is rife within pets.

CoffeeWithCheese · 01/07/2021 09:45

I know my hairdresser's been jabbed as it came up in general conversation (she was booking her slot when I was in there with my bleach marinading on my head)... however she's had customers come in and get really arsey demanding to know her vax status - and her response has been to ask if they'd like to know the date of her last smear test as well... that's usually shut them up!

I don't care - I believe in bodily autonomy, plus with the amount of bleach on my hair nothing is bloody surviving that anyway!

AbsoluteMadness · 01/07/2021 09:45

I’ve never asked anyone about their private medical history so I can’t imagine I would know their vaccination status.
If you’re unhappy with their choices, don’t use them. If they’re as good at their jobs as you say they are they won’t care anyway as they will have plenty of other customers.

CrunchyCarrot · 01/07/2021 09:59

Yes I would, because I've not been vaccinated either, we'd have something in common (although likely not the same reason)! Joking aside, I wouldn't ask for anyone's vaccine status.

FflosFfantastig · 01/07/2021 10:15

If you are vaccinated and have confidence in your vaccine why wouldn't you? Surely you had your vaccine to give you protection. Don't you believe that it does? I'm not asking to be disrespectful in any way, I'm genuinely confused.

ilovesooty · 01/07/2021 14:18

I don't intend to ask the people at my cattery whether they've been vaccinated but I've known them years. If I were taking my cats to a new cattery and discovered that the owners were open antivaxxers I'd look elsewhere because I wouldn't trust their judgement or want to entrust my cats to them.

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 01/07/2021 14:32

I would, on the grounds that they might have medical justification not to have the vaccine and I don't think such people should have to tediously explain this again and again.

And that's why I'm happy to get vaccinated, so a therapist or hairdresser that is unable to get the vaccine can have my custom with me posing as little risk to them as possible.
