Job interview 5 hours after vaccine - side effects?

I have been given a one-hour interview slot tomorrow afternoon, which will be impossible to reschedule.

My COVID vaccine is booked for the morning 5 hours before. It will not be Astra Zeneca but I don’t know which one.

Just wondering on the likelihood of side effects so soon after the vaccine?

Did the side effects take longer than 5-6 hours to kick in for you? Would the side effects have put off your performance in a video interview?

I could move the vaccine quite easily and am tempted to do this but would feel a bit guilty if there’s no need.

It was AZ I got and the only side effect was a sore upper arm that started the next day and lasted a few days

No need. Most people I know have not felt ropey until several hours later, so you’ll be fine. Good luck with both!!

Most people I know - myself included - started feeling unwell 10 - 12 hours later. And not desperately unwell, in most cases - a little feverish, achy, flu-like.

Take some paracetomol after you have the jab, just as a precaution. I'm sure you'll get through the interview, no problem. After that, go home and hope for the best with the side effects!

I had a whole-day interview the day after my ZA job, which had been in the afternoon.

I went home, took paracetomol, snoozed, took ibuprofen and went to bed for a LONG sleep - then took tablets in the morning and took them with me. Also plenty of water.

I'm sure you'll be fine, as it won't have had a long time to develop. But tablets, water, rest if you can. Oh, and make a joke to the panel about what a hero you are - will break the ice but also might help them to be on your side, regardless of how you actually feel! When I mentioned my jab, two of the panel told me they had had to have a day off work afterwards, and they were impresssed by my commitment!

AZ jab...

I felt fine - sore arm for that one day, but nothing else. My friend who did have a reaction said it started about 12 hours after the jab, so I think you will be fine.

Yes I would say you would be ok 5-6 hours later but take some paracetamol just in case. If you do have side effects, they seem to be start 10-12 hours later and last for a day or so,

It should be fine. I had a work meeting a few hours after mine and worked into the evening. I only felt tired and a bit achey later on in the evening/overnight and was then fine to work again the next morning. Generally Pfizer and Moderna only cause mild side effects anyway, especially with the first dose.

Watercoloursky · 26/05/2021 12:12

I had Pfizer early in the afternoon and was starting to get a stiff/sore-ish arm by the evening, but didn't feel at all unwell... arm was very sore for the whole of the next day, but right as rain by the day after.

My OH had Moderna, and he had similar, though he was quite tired the day after his jab (a nap put him right again, though, and he was fine the following day!). Neither of us had anything that would have effected an interview on jab day - best of luck for the interview!

Thank you all so much
