Should I pull child out of school to ‘save’ holiday?

My child’s school has class bubbles. One of the 6 classes in the year have been sent home as a child had a positive LFD. Awaiting PCR result. This doesn’t impact child right how thanks to them being in a different bubble.

But obviously, there’s a risk as it’s in the school.

We’re visiting family this weekend (3 hours away). After a bereavement, we are all desperate to be together. Will be devastated to miss it. Am so so worried child’s bubble will burst. Friend suggested we take them out of school Thurs / Fri to minimise risk of them being part of the next bubble that might burst.

  1. Would this make a difference? If a kid in my child’s class has a positive LFD tomorrow (Thurs) morning then wouldn’t my child still have to isolate as was at school today? Is it contact within 24 hours?
  1. Is this just a silly, maybe unethical thing to do, pulling then out just in case their bubble bursts?

It's positive test - 3 days for close contact from track and trace perspective.
So a child testing positive tomorrow wouldn't make much difference if found to be a close contact would still need to isolate.

Memories of all the posts from December coming back " should I pull my child from school to save christmas"

Girlmama3 · 26/05/2021 10:24

I did it at Christmas. I wanted to make sure we spent it with my ill dad. There was a case in dds school so I didn't want to risk it x

I don’t think it’s 3 days now. I think it’s 2 days (48 hours according to www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/when-to-self-isolate-and-what-to-do/). So yep, wouldn’t make a different if bubble bursts tomorrow or Fri but would if Sat / Sun?

Friday is a Bank Holiday anyway. So go for it.

Go for it. Your child won't miss out- they'll be able to catch up on school work and you'll be able to see family. Crack on. Could you do 1 or 2 LFT's before you go so even if the bubble bursts you'll know sooner?

Yes, just do it and have more peace of mind. School has already been so disrupted that a couple more days off won't make much difference at all, but some extended family time will benefit you all.

Just to offer some reassurance re missing school - I electively home schooled my now adult children, back in the noughties when it was barely heard of. We hardly did any 'formal' school-type learning, but plenty of play based learning, trips out (educational and social), art, craft, nature type stuff, computers, YouTube tutorials etc. The kind of things that people do weekends, holidays and family time. All are well adjusted young adults, with GCSEs, and are making good progress in jobs they love.

Children that have had a disrupted year/18months of school will be ok long term in regards to their learning and future prospects, please be reassured in this. How they will be emotionally after such a weird and crap time remains to be seen, hopefully most are coping well.

Please take the time to see your family, especially as you've had a bereavement (and my condolences to you all, I'm sorry you're going through this on top of everything else).

I'm sure lots of teachers would like to pull out of school too in order to save their holiday
