Vaccine on the day of period

I have a slot booked. I’m not comfortable at all about doing this but feel like I HAVE to, do not in a happy or comfortable place as it is.
The date is on the day of my period- mind is regular so not expecting any delays. On the day of the period I get more bleed, a hormonal migraine sometime I end up being sick and cramps. Again like clockwork from the point I turned 38, I turned 40 this year.
Given this is my 1st dose and side effects are likely is it advisable to rebook? I don’t have the physical energy to put up with both and certainly don’t have the mental energy to worry about having done which I’m not comfortable with, watch out for clots etc

It’s entirely up to you. 💗

Woeismethischristmas · 25/05/2021 12:03

I would say it’s easy to rebook. So if you’re unhappy just change the appointment.

ZombieEthel · 25/05/2021 12:03

I would rebook. If you know you're likely to feel unwell anyway because of your period, then it would be sensible to rebook your vaccination for after your period.

CrossRoad5 · 25/05/2021 12:10

Thank you for your responses, I’m leaning toward rebooking as well. Certainly don’t have the mental capacity now as dad has had a heart attack and has been taken into an emergency bypass...what’s more he’s in a country currently being ravaged by corona...I just want to crawl under a rock😢😢

I think if you’d feel better mentally it’s ok to re-book! I didn’t have any side effects at all really, neither did most of my friends. But on the off chance you do, you don’t want to be feeling rubbish on your period too.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/05/2021 12:14

I've booked mine for after my period. I get headaches that painkillers won't touch and in the unlikely event they are related to the vaccine I'm not going to know.

RosieLemonade · 25/05/2021 12:24

@CrossRoad5 so sorry to hear about your dad. They are easy to change. There is no reason why you shouldn't.

Senso21 · 25/05/2021 13:02

I had my second jab on day before period was due, always clockwork and it arrived 5 days late. So if you do have it done be aware that it might delay it slightly

FelicityPike · 25/05/2021 13:05

I had my 1st dose yesterday and I currently feel like absolute shit.
I couldn’t handle this on top of your period symptoms, reschedule.

Blondiney · 25/05/2021 13:18

I had my Pfizer on the first day of my period. I mentioned it to the injector and she said it wasn't a problem. It was absolutely fine.

blitzen · 25/05/2021 13:30

I had my first vaccine on day 1 of my period. I was absolutely fine and kind of just wanted both things to be over with!

YoutubeZoom · 25/05/2021 13:34

I also had my 1st dose of vaccine on the 1st day of my period. It was not pleasant, but my periods are always horrendous, so it probably made no difference to have flu symptoms as well. I got them both out of the way.
Good luck, OP. Flowers

Sandytoes86 · 25/05/2021 13:37

I had my Pfizer first dose on the day I was due and the day after is usually worse for me. It was no different from usual other than a bit of a sore arm. I wouldn’t re book , you could have other issues that come up that may delay you further. Sorry to hear about your dad

Mrsfrumble · 25/05/2021 14:04

I also had my vaccine on the first day of my period (didn’t realise it had started until I got home). Contrary to all the reports the period was actually lighter and shorter than usual. If you can easily get another slot then rebook if it’s going to weigh on your mind.

I’m sorry about your dad Flowers

This article is really good. I started another thread with it on earlier. It's good to get the vaccine in the first half of your cycle. I had my first dose during my period and I was kind of released to get it all out of the way, rather than having period symptoms, then extra days of feeling rubbish with vaccine side effects. Although I was lucky and didn't have too bad side effects really.

Do what makes you feel comfortable :)
