Another stupid question

I know the actual answer, but wonder what others would do in reality.

I've woken up with a sore throat, headache, tickly cough. I've been under extreme stress last few days so it's not surprising I've gone down with "something"

I've done a lateral flow test because I have them for work. I know they're not for people with symptoms, but figured it was a start. That's negative.

I have no need to leave the house for at least the next couple of days, as I'm WFH because of DH. However, DS is at work and we have carers coming in for DH (I assume they would still come regardless?).

If it makes a difference, I am fully vaccinated, everyone else in the house has had one vaccination. We also had Covid in December.

So I should go and get a PCR test, would you in this situation?

Yes, especially as you have people in and out your house who could potentially carry it to others.

NewMatress · 25/05/2021 10:02

Yes, that's the bit I'm concerned about but I don't think they stop coming anyway?

I will be kind as I know you are going through a horrendous time at the moment (glad to read your dh is home) but yes, you need to get a PCR test and you and your DS need to isolate. You also need to inform the carers, they might have to send different people/extra ppe.

The test are coming back within 24 hours so it shouldn't be isolating for long.

Dementedswan · 25/05/2021 10:04

If you are positive then the whole house will have to isolate. Ds won't be going to work. I don't know the rules regarding carers but considering they will be visiting other people, I would be very surprised if the would still come.

palacegirl77 · 25/05/2021 10:13

For the sake of clarity for the household and peace of mind I would get tested but not on any level because I think you will be positive. After having covid, and 2 vaccines the chance of having it would be so small!

AdaFuckingShelby · 25/05/2021 10:15

The chances of having it are NOT small. The chances of it making you very ill are small. Please get a test.

SonnetForSpring · 25/05/2021 10:17

Yes I would get a PCR.

SonnetForSpring · 25/05/2021 10:18

Hope you feel better soon.

QwertyGirly · 25/05/2021 10:19

I agree with the others. If only for your peace of mind, do a PCR test. There are regular colds going around, and if you are run down there's a real possibility that it's 'just a cold' but you won't be able to rest unless you get a full test.

CoffeeCakey · 25/05/2021 10:22

Get a test. They come back really quick these days

Blimey, I know Covid has made people callously self centre, but surely we haven't got to a place where vulnerable people, assessed to need care (a near impossible achievement in itself) are abandoned because someone in the household might be ill?
Dementedswan · 27/05/2021 19:17

@OrangePowder I have no idea what the situation is for carers in this instance. I certainly hope they are not abandoned. I didn't mean to come across as callous, I'm not.

You would be "very surprised" if they'd come. What do you think happens to people dependent on carers if the carers don't come? How could that be OK on any level. Similarly it shows how insulated some people have been through all this, of course carers have been working as usual.

Dementedswan · 27/05/2021 21:53

I would be surprised if carers were visiting houses with know corona virus case and going in to visit other vulnerable people possibly putting others at risk. However I know people need carers I'm not stupid. Maybe one carer allowed and extra ppe, I don't know. That's my point.

I wasn't being mean or whatever you may think. I simply don't know what would happen if a person within the household of a person who has carers tests positive 🤷‍♀️

ragged · 28/05/2021 07:50

Is tickly cough = persistent cough?
It's the only almost qualifying symptom.

If OP's DH needs daily carers, do they just stop appearing for 10 days if OP has confirmed covid?

LadyPenelope68 · 28/05/2021 08:00

Yes, they will stop coming if you have a positive case in the home. They can’t put other clients at risk coming to you and then going to others. Our neighbour has just been through this exact situation, a positive test for her daughter has meant her husband’s carers weren’t allowed to come in. They had to either care fir him themselves for the isolation period, or pay for a “sole carer” who was willing to care for their relative only and not go to other clients.

They won't. How could that possibly be OK?
ineedaholidaynow · 28/05/2021 08:38

Is there a time limit after having COVID when you can have a PCR test? Isn’t there something about residual virus?

I am sorry @NewMatress you have this to contend with as well as everything else. I am glad your DH is home though.

LadyPenelope68 · 28/05/2021 08:45

@OrangePowder

It isn’t ok, I agree, but that is what is happening. Carers can’t care for someone in a positive household then go and care for someone vulnerable, they risk transferring the virus.

OrangePowder · 28/05/2021 08:50

Care companies are asked to aim to have consistent care givers to reduce the risk and scope of transmission, but they're really not abandoning our most vulnerable people at the very time they're needed most.

OrangePowder · 28/05/2021 08:52

Just like paramedics are still going into homes where there is Covid and then in to other homes

freedomontheway · 28/05/2021 09:16

Around ten days ago my GS had similar symptoms
I did a LFT as do them for work. It was negative. He wasn't unwell in the slightest. However his school said he needed a PCR as he had at least one of the symptoms of Covid before he was allowed back in school. So he missed three days of school and my DD and I missed two days of work as clearly we had to self isolate

LadyPenelope68 · 28/05/2021 13:00

@OrangePowder
Think what you like, but that is what is happening in some areas.
