Yaaaayyyyy and I'm absolutely buzzing about it!!!! I've been SO excited but also envious of everyone getting there's before me, I cant wait to get my little stamp saying it's done!
I've come on this site to complain, a lot 🙊, over the past year about coronavirus so I wanted to share the good news too!

I'm having pfizer, hoping for no side effects 😀

Great news ! I have just been for my second jab , Husband had his too .
Now just waiting for my Sons in their 20's to get done 💉😊 oh it was AZ .

diddl · 25/05/2021 10:37

I've got mine booked for today but really want to cancel as I'm so scared of how much it's going to hurt.

I've been in tears about it.

People keep saying it doesn't hurt to have it done, but I just don't see how that's possible.

No more than a little scratch, like a paper cut that goes away in under 3 seconds.

Yayyyy.

"No more than a little scratch, like a paper cut that goes away in under 3 seconds."

This is what people keep saying, but I just can't process that this is possible.

I'm so wound up about it.

I know that I've got to get it done, but everytime I think about it I feel as if I'll throw up!

bestbefore · 25/05/2021 10:47

@diddl it'll be over before you know it. It's a tiny needle, honestly v small scratch. Take a paracetamol before as may help.

Mine was a tiny prick (Grin), with a bit of an ache for the rest of the day.

My friend is still dubious as to whether he actually got his, as he was talking to the admin assistant when the nurse said 'all done'. He felt nothing- he's half-convinced she jabbed his rolled up sleeve Grin

It hurt me. I said 'owwwwwch' and she said I was the first person that day that said it hurt. But her & I have history (a nurse at my GP. She's an absolute bitch frankly)

It did hurt me, more than a 'scratch', but it's not dreadful and in under a minute it's over. Most people don't find it hurts though.

I wanted to tell you it hurt me, so you don't think everyone's just fobbing you off! But honestly only for a few seconds and the whole thing is done in under a minute. You'll be fine, honestly.

TheBobJog · 25/05/2021 10:49

Sorry, meant to say congrats OP Smile

I think I need a sedative!

evtheria · 25/05/2021 10:54

Yay! Me too (next Sat), I could have got a slot this week but location/transport/childcare/awkward slot times put me back... Still so happy as I’ve been enviously watching friends and family get theirs!

I hate needles and I’m scared but hopefully will have someone nice to do it.

Spied · 25/05/2021 10:54

diddl
I was also talking to a different nurse in the room and I didn't think the other nurse had given me the vax as I felt absolutely nothing.
( I usually feel injections). I said something stupid like "Are you sure you did it?"Blush
. The needle for this is tiny. Honestly.

Spied · 25/05/2021 10:54

Smile Great OP

myhobbyisouting · 25/05/2021 10:55

Seriously? It is an injection with a tiny needle not a sledgehammer to the head.

It won't hurt

MRex · 25/05/2021 10:55

@diddl - let them know at the vaccination site that you're nervous and they should take you through quickly to give you extra support. My preference is to ask them not to tell me when they're jabbing and look away while chatting, personally I didn't even feel it going in because she was so quick I didn't have time to tense up.

MRex · 25/05/2021 10:56

And congrats @november90!

Hullish · 25/05/2021 10:58

I had mine on Sunday, massive baby when it comes to needles and I didn’t even feel it.

All done within 10 seconds.

If that's to me, yes seriously.

I hardly slept last night & spent some time crying.

ifonly4 · 25/05/2021 11:01

Great news, OP. I unexpectedly qualified early through work and I was there like a shot. I felt exactly the same as you, almost excited to get it done, and was on a high on the day. Not to the same extent, but I also looked forward to getting my second dose.

QueenPaw · 25/05/2021 11:03

It barely hurts honestly. Takes enough time to say "needle" in your head, and it's done. Tiny tiny amount of liquid and way quicker than a blood test

Missypuff30 · 25/05/2021 11:07

I've been trained as a vaccinator and was told that the needle is very fine compared to others, which is why it doesn't hurt much at all. My first one was a bit pinchy, second one I didn't even feel.

You'll be fine :)

Mindymomo · 25/05/2021 11:08

I’ve had both mind and honestly it’s done in a second, not enough time to feel it. If there wasn’t a little spot after, I wouldn’t have thought that I had it. I had my first in a Superdrug, where all questions were asked in the same room as the vaccinator. My second was at a national large hub, where there was a long queue, which quickly moved, you had to go to 5 different check points and it was pretty noisy. I had AZ with no side effects at all, I’m in my late 50’s and also extremely pleased.

Northernsoullover · 25/05/2021 11:09

@diddl I promise you that I didn't notice. He actually said 'all done and I thought he was joking. It was completely painless. I'm the type of person who has to be sedated at the dentist.

Eilethya · 25/05/2021 11:09

@diddl I used to have a bad needle phobia (a serious illness with a hospital stay and multiple proddings cured it), but my trick was to go to my happy place.

I used to relax my muscles (don't tense, twill hurt more), and imagine myself sat on the beach listening to the waves.

One breath and it's done. It's never pleasant having an injection but it's never as bad as you think it will be Thanks

Marjoriesdoor · 25/05/2021 11:17

@diddl

It really is the tiniest needle and I barely even felt mine. If it helps to put it into perspective, if you caught Covid and were one of the unlucky ones and you needed a lot of intervention in hospital, you would have to endure far more in terms of medical treatments and needles, blood tests, medication and maybe even manual ventilation. This is the way I always explain vaccinations to my children - one tiny scratch now or God knows what in hospital later on?

I suspect, though, that this is not really about the potential 'pain' of a needle and instead this is the manifestation of some kind of anxiety that is not allowing you to see this in a rational way, despite what any of us might say to reassure you. In the kindest possible way, I would urge you to seek help with that. Good luck with your vaccination and I hope you are able to go ahead with it despite your fears x
