Vaccine on Saturday and I've got a cold and sore throat

Is it still ok for me to have my vaccine Saturday?
I have had a cold and am all congested in my ears and head, with a sore throat and croaky voice.
Feeling ok in myself other than a bit mucky with my sore throat and congestion.
Is it still ok to have my planned vaccine on Saturday?

Wait and see how you feel. You may develop a cough too, it’s going round, I’ve had it. Had a negative pcr test. I went for my vaccine at the end of my cold when I felt fine and it was fine side effect wise (2nd jab but first was awful!)
The person asked if I was feeling fit and well today, wait and see how you feel and reschedule if not we’ll enough.

Theoretically it's fine, they say you should get it and you'll be allowed. In practice I'd suggest waiting a few days longer to recover. A little after my vaccine both DS and I got snotty and it really lingered (he's breastfeeding still and I did wonder if it was even vaccine linked because DH didn't get it). A few days after DH's vaccine, DS brought home another snotty nose; a couple of days later he and I were fine but poor DH still has morning snottiness 2 weeks later. So in this house at least, we think our colds lingered because of being too busy building covid immunity.

As long as no temp or cough come with it as you will then need a test. Otherwise you should be fine.

The information leaflet i got given said that minor upper airway/cold symptoms did not warrant delaying the vaccination.

I'd probably do some testing and assuming negative and the cold doesn't worsen, go for my vaccination.

Yes I’d also suggest having a pcr test to rule it out.

What would be the reason you can't have the vaccine if for some reason you did have Covid?
Is it because the vaccine wouldn't work?
Would you be more poorly?
I don't have any of the main symptoms no cough, and no temp. Just cold symptoms.
But now I'm worried I may have it and not realise?
But then do you think many people may have had the vaccine and had Covid at or around the same time without knowing it?

At my second vaccine I told them I'd had cold symptoms a few days before, their only concern was that I hadn't had a temperature, cough or loss of taste/smell. I know LFTs aren't 100% but I had the benefit of being able to tell them I'd been doing them.

JC17fj74 · 25/05/2021 15:33

Ifonly4 This is what I've been doing, twice weekly lateral flows and although like you say they aren't 100% I don't see a reason to get a PCR if I don't have any of the main symptoms?
I'm curious to know why you shouldn't ha e the vaccine within 14 of being Covid positive though? What the actual reason or evidence is?

Because you potentially stress out your immune system and there is zero point in it.

And you aren't going to be at increased risk of covid by delaying the vaccine, because you've already got it!

The risk is probably very low and undoubtedly a number of people will have had covid at the same time as the vaccine, but why take an unnecessary risk?
