Lateral flow for child fever

Senso21 · 25/05/2021 06:37

My 4 year old have a random fever in her sleep last night, went up to 38.5 and came down with calpol and nurofen and she’s still asleep now so I’m guessing it’s stayed lower through the rest of the night, if fever has subsided this morning can I nose swab with a lateral flow test and carry on as usual? I would test me, husband and other child too.
Thanks

No, you can’t use lateral flow tests in place of PCR for symptoms. You need to get a PCR test and whole household isolates until the results.

Alfaix · 25/05/2021 06:39

I think you know you all have to self isolate and get a PCR.

DNTSleepingDragons · 25/05/2021 06:39

Why???? Why are you asking this when you know you shouldn’t? They should have a PCR test and the household should isolate until a negative result is back.

Temp023 · 25/05/2021 06:39

Well you know what your kid has been up to and the chances that it is Covid so if a fever is the only symptom then yes, test away.

UmbilicusProfundus · 25/05/2021 06:43

PCR test at a centre this morning and hopefully you will get the result back by the end of the day.

WaterBottle123 · 25/05/2021 06:52

PCR or you're basically just murdering pensioners.

DancesWithDaffodils · 25/05/2021 06:52

Dont use lateral flow for symptons. They are not sensitive enough - and if its positive, you are supposed to repeat it with a PCR anyway.
Isolate, book a PCR test, and hope its negative.

See I don’t get responses like this. Nobody was being OTT, people were advising OP to get a test based on the fact her child has one of the 3 main symptoms.

Why the end bit? Is it supposed to be biting, or daring? Why say it?

Fuck sake.

Sorry op you do need a PCR test though with a temperature and to isolate until the results come back

xyzandabc · 25/05/2021 07:19

PCR this morning. Whole household isolate until results. Results seem to be coming back within 24hrs so you won't have to isolate for days.

picturesandpickles · 25/05/2021 07:24

No, and I feel like you knew the answer!

Too many people trying to avoid doing what is right.

Hope no one is too poorly.

HazeyJaneII · 25/05/2021 08:24

You all have to isolate until your child has a negative result on a PCR test.

@FloraFauna27 See I don’t get responses like this. Nobody was being OTT... They think they're being 'edgy'

Senso21 · 25/05/2021 08:42

Thanks all - test booked

Has anyone had one recently and knows how long the results are taking

milkjetmum · 25/05/2021 08:47

Last one I did was 36hr (until then I had always got results back on the same day)

DarcyLewis · 25/05/2021 08:48

I had results back the same day, maybe 14 hours.

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 25/05/2021 08:56

I had a PCR test just over a week ago, the results came back in just under 10 hours! Much quicker than previous ones.

Senso21 · 25/05/2021 09:23

Oh brilliant! Fingers crossed for quick turn around and everyone back to school tomorrow!

Thirtyrock39 · 25/05/2021 16:45

Had pcr Saturday afternoon abs results took 23 hours

Nootkah · 26/05/2021 09:10

No of course you cant. LTF is for asymptomatic testing, as it has has a highish false negative. PCR is for symptomatic testing. Book a PCR test and household isolation until results, theyre coming back quick now.

WildCherryBlossom · 26/05/2021 09:44

Had one v recently, results in just under 20 hours.
