DD had to have a lateral flow test to go to a 21st - would you ask for it?

DD was invited to go to a 21st during last week. I'm not sure on numbers but I think there were 12 of them there at a pub marquee. The hosts parents required her to take a lateral flow test today before going. They have no members of the family with vulnerable health conditions. She got some tests a few weeks ago from people giving them out in the street so it wasn't any extra bother.

Would you also request such a thing if it were your DC's 21st? I ask because my DD's 21st is in August and she plans to party in our garden - probably with similar numbers. It hadn't occurred to me to do something similar. I have been double jabbed and taken part in the Imperial antibodies research project which shows I'm positive for antibodies. The only other person who lives here out of uni term time is my DS.

Really good idea. It would still catch the handful of cases that are trickling around.

PPCD · 23/05/2021 20:46

Absolutely. It's a sensible thing to do.

JanFebAnyMonth · 23/05/2021 21:07

Hadn’t thought of it but seeing as we’re all supposed to be taking them twice a week, a very good idea!

RaskolnikovsGarret · 23/05/2021 21:11

Our DD forced us to have one before visiting her at university for lunch last week, so sounds fine to me.

Doesn't mean you can't be infected and pass it on, although the chance of that is about 80% lower than in an unvaccinated person.

PinkDaffodil2 · 23/05/2021 21:25

I think that’s a really sensible thing to do. We had a big family gathering outdoors yesterday and did the same. Especially with the Indian variant we know that the protection against mild / asymtomatic disease isn’t perfect even after two jabs.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 23/05/2021 21:26

I think it’s a very sensible idea.

Devastatedyetagain · 23/05/2021 21:29

Currently being subject to 10 days self isolation due to contact with a positive case at a youth group, I think it is a brilliant idea!!!

anniegun · 23/05/2021 21:30

sounds a really good idea- very responsible of the host

I think friends parents are being responsible re getting tests done.

Not sure if the have broken restrictions, I thought we could only meet 6 people at present. Let's hope someone local to them doesn't put the busy body head on and report them for covid breach. We have one neighbour grassing every one since March last year

2anddone · 23/05/2021 21:55

Think it's now 30 outside. I think it's very sensible of the host we had my parents round today for my mums birthday and all tested this morning before getting together even though me and them are double jabbed my dc aren't and we could still pass it around.

loulouljh · 23/05/2021 22:02

I would take the opposite view..I would be horrified if anyone asked me to do this and would politely decline the invitation to attend!

Me too.
Muchtoomuchtodo · 23/05/2021 22:14

@loulouljh and @foxyroxyyy why?
Many of us and our kids have to do them twice a week anyway.

I would be very relieved to know you had declined if I was a fellow guest.
Hellocatshome · 23/05/2021 22:17

Seems sensible, my secondary age child and myself are doing them twice weekly anyway but if I was attending a gathering with people I dont normally come into close contact with I would time my test to coincide.

Pootle40 · 23/05/2021 22:18

No way. I'd be thinking stop the bus I want to get off. Madness.

grapewine · 23/05/2021 22:21

Yes. I think it's sensible too and would feel safer as a guest.

ineedaholidaynow · 23/05/2021 22:21

I'm not sure how a marquee is treated as outside rather than inside, unless the sides are up. There was one outs a restaurant we went to at the weekend, and I assume they used it when only being outside was allowed.

I think it is sensible to ask for LFT

Peaplant20 · 23/05/2021 22:25

Great idea! Can’t see any downside to it at all and can’t understand the viewpoint of not wanting to do it at all, it takes literally a few minutes (minus waiting for results). Even if you think it’s silly it’s no time or effort on your behalf if it would make someone else feel more comfortable.

blueangel19 · 23/05/2021 22:28

Yes, a sensible thing to do.

Starlightstarbright1 · 23/05/2021 22:29

Sounds sensible to me.

Lucidas · 23/05/2021 22:38

Would be fine with this. Good riddance to anyone who declines.

Bouledeneige · 24/05/2021 01:40

A lateral flow test is no more reliable than an antibody test.

Everyone one I know is double jabbed or a student so even if people did get infected it won't really matter. Will it?

GiveMeNovocain · 24/05/2021 01:59

By August they probably won't be giving tests out like candy. I'm in Wales and don't fit the criteria to get them so maybe you'll be the same soon. By your party surely everyone will have been vaccinated at least once? End of May here and I'd assume people were safe by August. It's three months away.

To answer your question I don't think anyone has a right to demand my medical status unless I choose to disclose it.
