Can anyone explain this track and trace?

When I take the dc to swimming lessons, every adult has to sign their name and phone number on entry, it's for track and trace. Yet when you're inside, no one monitors where you sit. The viewing chairs are all spaced 2 metres apart anyway but you can sit wherever you like.

I don't really understand the logic, if there was a Covid case, they'd have no way of identifying close contacts.

I've found this with a few places now. There a mini fairground within a park, you have to sign track and trace to enter the fairground, but once you're in they have no way of knowing where you've stood and who you've stood by, you can enter the park and go in the playground without signing in, it's just the funfair.

Yet there are other similar places don't take details at all.

I don't understand what these places are going to do with the info and f there was an outbreak iyswim?

We were away last week and a few places were taking names and numbers, but I can't see they serve any purpose as they weren't noting times and we were sat eating outside.

Just to be clear. I know that close contacts of a positive case need to isolate.

But unless you can actually track a persons movements for example in a restaurant, with a seating plan, I don't understand the point of taking contact details.

Exactly, you don't have to sign in at the supermarket, or a playground.

It just seems very pointless.

I don’t think they government did much with data gained from people using the app to sign in to places either. It’s just for show, in the majority of cases.

It's not for identifying close contactsin order to tell you to self isolate. It's so that if there is some sort of outbreak at the venue those you have been there can be contacted to be advised that they should be extra vigilant for any symptoms and to ensure they take a test if they get symptoms. There is info on the process accessible from the NHS covid app and I think I also found it online.

Did that ever actually happen though?

At our swimming lessons we have allocated changing cubicles & allocated seats for spectating, which are wiped down in between each lesson. We have to use the same changing cubicle/chair each week so they know who will be classed as close contact. I presumed all leisure centres must be doing this but clearly not!

Though I find it bizarre that we are allowed to remove masks once seated poolside.

@RichardMarxisinnocent ok, so just a general alert rather than being told to isolate.

@TheDukeissoHot1 our local pool doesn't allocate anywhere to sit, this is what I couldn't understand, there's no system to identify close contacts.

We go to two different kids football places, one requires you to sign in, fill in a form, the other one doesn't ask for any details at all.

It feels at times that pls we are doing it just so they are seen to be doing something.

It's a legal requirement for them.
