Delayed reaction to Astra Zeneca vaccine

I'm 10 days post first AZ vax and had no reaction until today when my arm started to be sore at vax site - just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

It sounds unlikely - sore arm is caused because of the actual mechanics of the jab (any jab) with the needle and the additional bit of fluid.

What sort of soreness is it? Have you been doing anything unusual (gardening, shifting furniture, new exercises or even just sleeping weirdly)

My mum had a delayed reaction to the az vaccination. It started with her arm feeling sore at the injection sight then she developed a rash. The rash was circular and was very painful. We yellow carded it. I have heard of other people experiencing this too. It happened 10 days after her vaccination.

I had this with the first dose of AZ vaccine. I didn't report it - because I get it with my annual flu jab too, though not as severe. When I went back for my second AZ vaccine I mentioned it and showed them the photos. They said it was likely a moderate reaction to a component in the vaccine preparation (not the vaccine itself) as the preparation of the AZ vaccine and the flu vaccine are quite similar and share a preservative component which is probably what I am moderately allergic to. So for the second AZ jab they spoke to the doctor and followed the "moderate allergic reaction to first jab" protocol. This was 10mg of an antihistamine which they gave me, wait half an hour, have the jab, and then wait at the vaccination centre. This time I had absolutely no reaction at the injection site apart from the tiny puncture. No sore arm (normally can't sleep on it for a couple of weeks from any vaccine), no redness, no rash a week or so later.

So I reckon this is an allergic reaction to the preservative in most vaccines. If she mentions it in the future they will probably give her an antihistamine before hand. I plan to take an antihistamine myself before going to get the jab going forward, for flu and any future vaccines.

It's common especially after moderna jab. It's a delayed inflammatory response. Do a search on moderna arm and it brings up articles about it

Hi sorry - thanks for replies - not done anything unusual with arm - it is still sore at injection sight so @Nodal explanation makes sense 🙂
