For those worried about their second jab.

That's very reassuring

whataballbag · 20/05/2021 21:15

MHRA say different?

Ilovecrumpets · 20/05/2021 21:17

I was wondering about this. Is it because the MHRA are reported cases but they haven’t been confirmed yet as the specific VITT?

Ilovecrumpets · 20/05/2021 21:18

As in reported but not independently confirmed ( although I think I read elsewhere the specialists haven’t been given the details by MHRA as yet)

Rainbowsandstorms · 20/05/2021 21:24

I’m confused, the mrha report issued today advised there were 15 cases after a second dose. Those of us who are due our second doses really need some clarity and transparency.

Stitched77 · 20/05/2021 21:59

Read the words carefully.

  • "known"
  • references a very specific complication, rather than complications/injuries generally
  • "no evidence" - well - no investigation yields no evidence either way
  • Two sets of advice from 2 bodies - do you trust them completely?
  • The last para alludes to some of what i have highlighted - "to date", "no confirmed", and this specific issue

No lies, but how reassuring is it? I mean, it isn't saying something like "We have carried out a lot of research and here are our conclusions, good and the bad....." and being open. It is the usual empty reassurances and the "no evidence" line.

Make of it whatever you want. I have no idea either way. I can smell weasel words though

TheChineseChicken · 21/05/2021 07:43

Presumably the MHRA reports what they are notified of, regardless / before it has been verified. There is a background risk of similar blood clotting disorders (which I think is something like 1 per million) so possibly reported cases were later confirmed to be this? I don’t know this for sure but it would explain the discrepancy. Also, the more they know about the mechanisms of the adverse effect the better they can make assertions about likelihood with second vaccines

TheChineseChicken · 21/05/2021 08:04

Having said all of that, there’s no date on that article so I don’t know how recent it is

WilsonMilson · 21/05/2021 08:27

Sadly, the BBC is probably the least trustworthy source of information about this whole crisis. I’d take any shite they peddle with a massive pinch of salt these days.
