Why is Ivermectin being ignored?

At this point I think it’s criminal that we aren’t using Ivermectin certainly as treatment, but also evidence for use as prophylaxis. What’s the agenda here? Why is this being almost entirely ignored? A cheap drug with a long proven safety record. I guess the answer is there - it’s cheap and out of patent, no one’s making any money.

Here’s the link. I’d also recommend the the last couple of episodes of the Dark Horse podcast - Dr Bret Weinstein and Dr Heather Heying talk about Covid in general, and Ivermectin in particular.

Ivermectin can lead to seizures at higher doses. Just because it is used as an anti parasitic in some countries where illness from parasites is significant does not mean that it is a safe medicine. Everything is calculated on a risk/ benefit analysis.
In this case there is no proven benefit in using ivermectin against the COVID 19 virus, and significant risk of convulsion and brain damage at higher systemic doses.

So that is why it isn't being recommended: it wouldn't work and it's potentially dangerous.

There are other inexpensive medicines which have been and are being reformulated/repurposed for COVID 19 and they are going through the regulatory process. There is less to be made from vaccines than from treatment, so the conspiracy theories are all the wrong way round.

Isn't ivermectin a horse wormer...

Heyha · 20/05/2021 17:45

Horses, farm animals, some small animals... parasites really used to hate it but a lot of them have developed resistance now so it's falling in popularity for that job...although it is cheap and you can test for resistance within your animals as well.
Be really handy if it was a good treatment for covid as the supply chain etc is already really well established apart from however they choose to dispense it (white paste in a syringe anyone?). Oh and did I mention that it's cheap?

Interesting, this is the same stuff that I give my guinea pigs once in a while to prevent mites. You can get it pretty much everywhere.

If any animal wormer was going to do anything I would have thought that levamisole with its potential immunomodulatory effects would be the first one to try. But I suspect none of them are any real use.

@tywysoges

It’s being (been?) widely used in Brazil, where it’s an over the counter medicine sold for head lice. Make of that what you will.
Sold in this country to deworm horses

No don't give them the good stuff 😂 give them bloody fenbendazole to mess about with for now, not good for much else.

Ivermectin was used asa broad spectrum wormer for horses , used as a paste in a pre-filled oral syringe, you could also buy it as a thick liqui to load into a working gun for sheep and cattle
Lethal for border collies
