Calm me down re possible blood clot, AstraZeneca

Hi all.

I'm probably freaking out about nothing but I'd appreciate others telling me so. 😆

I'm 35 and went for my second astrazeneca vaccine yesterday at 3pm.
When I was coming home after picking dd up at about 4.30pm, i was getting something out of the boot of the car and felt a strange sensation down the back of my leg, it sort if felt like a large drop of cold water running down the back of my leg, i even checked to see if it was water but there was nothing there. Very odd.
Then for the rest of the night and still today I have a weird cramping feeling in my calve, like when you get a Charley horse but with no pain, just a tight calve and a sort of flickering sensation.

So of course I'm worried about a blood clot Hmm but it's too soon for it to happen even if it was isnt it? They say to look out for clot symptoms 4 days to 4 weeks after the vaccine. Not 1.5 hours!!

Also worth mentioning, the night before I had quite restless/fidgety legs when trying to get to sleep so it could all be a coincidence?

Should I be worried??

No point in asking the doctors as theyll just ask if there's swelling there which there isn't.

No point in asking the doctors

There is every point in asking the doctor.

Please do that. Nobody here can realistically help.

QueenStromba · 19/05/2021 07:42

I'd seek medical attention. It's 4+ days for the first vaccine but that doesn't necessarily hold for the second.

Lemmen · 19/05/2021 07:43

Could be anxiety but why not call and talk to someone? That's what they're there for.

Buffaloskull · 19/05/2021 07:45

Ok I'll ring the doctor today.

Well, I’ve had that weird cold sensation like water down my leg before and I didn’t get any blood clot symptoms afterwards. I would check with a doctor, though, in case it is a warning sign for something more serious (and let me know what they said it might be, as it certainly feels weird!).

Walkaround · 19/05/2021 07:52

Ps I haven’t had those symptoms after the vaccine, though.

everythingthelighttouches · 19/05/2021 07:52

The type if clot seen after AZ or J&J vaccine is not in your leg and not seen until after 5 days.

If you did have a clot from vaccine, this is the woman who would review YOUR case. Listen to her.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 19/05/2021 07:53

I had a clot years ago (not jab related). Very sore calf, couldn’t put my foot down, calf visibly swollen .

I think they say watch out for headaches done they? If you are worried - call your doctor and see if they can see you/call you back. Don’t give yourself a stroke worrying about it.

idontlikealdi · 19/05/2021 08:08

I get that weird water dripping sensation down my leg from time to time, it's very disconcerting but no idea what it is.

Get checked out though

Buffaloskull · 19/05/2021 08:13

Its probably just a coincidence that its happened. My leg does feel weird, but like I said, just tight and flickering theres no pain there. This hasnt happened before though so its typical it would happen on the day i got the vaccine 🙄🤣

I hate wasting the doctors time and I'll feel stupid ringing them about this which is why I thought I'd ask here first but the pp is right no one here would really know (I guess I was hoping that someone who knew more about it would tell me it didnt sound like a clot and not to worry) so with that said I'll ring my gp and see what they say.

I know that weird dripping sensation was so odd!! It really did feel like someone just poured cold water down my leg.

Off topic slightly but I remember years ago I would get the feeling of a drop of cold water landing on my forehead Confused my friend used to get the same thing. Weird!!

Could it be psychosomatic? As in you have anxiety and as such it’s manifested into what you think are physical symptoms?

Buffaloskull · 19/05/2021 08:20

I do have anxiety (and have just popped a propranolol to calm me down...) so yes anxiety is making me hone in on it but I wouldnt say causing it, its definitely there but I'm also VERY (or more) aware of it because of the anxiety.. if that makes any sense at all.

Muscle twitches and cramps are a side effect I've certainly heard about. DVT is hot tender skin as opposed to what you describe but worth getting checked out obv.

Lettuceforlunch · 19/05/2021 08:26

I thought clots happened after the first jab and not the second?

Bluntness100 · 19/05/2021 08:27

Anxiety does cause physical symptoms where you’d swear blind you can feel it. As soon as I read you’d started getting it the night before I assumed it was anxiety. And you’d not have it an hour or so later.

So yes, as you have clinically diagnosed anxiety and are medicated for it, it would seem this is the issue.

QueenStromba · 19/05/2021 08:29

Clots after the second jab seem to be a bit rarer but they do happen.

I had my second AZ jab yesterday and was given advice about what to watch out for, which included (amongst other things) calf pain, redness and/or swelling.

OP, just contact your GP - it's probably not related, but your GP is the best judge of that, not anyone on here.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 19/05/2021 08:40

It's not pain, redness or swelling though is it? It's just a funny sensation.
Nonetheless I agree do talk to your GP and they can examine you if they feel it's warranted and/ or order a blood test to exclude it.

Cloverleaf20 · 19/05/2021 08:43

Don’t second guess, seek proper medical advise .

janlevinson · 19/05/2021 08:47

Reluctant to give out medical advice but that does sound more like a nerve or muscle symptom which may or may not be related to the vaccine. It doesn't sound like a clot symptom but I think it would be worth seeing the GP to see if they know what it is.
It's very worrying when odd symptoms pop up so I do sympathise.

reallyreallyborednow · 19/05/2021 08:48

I have never heard of Charley Horse for a cramp before, had to google it!

Tbh the symptoms for blood clots in the leg are very different, and the AZ clots are different anyway and not in the leg- severe headache and general signs not muscle cramps.

conkersarebonkers · 19/05/2021 08:55

I was pointing out to previous poster that we ARE told to watch for signs of leg clots after AZ.

I agree it's probably unrelated muscle/nerve thing, but I'd much rather OP was assessed by a GP than by mumsnet.
