Scared to travel for work

I’m 50, with multiple health issues (group 6), and have only very recently had one vaccine.

My work want me to travel to Ireland to stay overnight and work in an office where there is no social distancing.

I can’t figure out whether my reluctance is justified, or if I am just suffering from stress as a result of events of the last year.

On the one hand I compare it to our wonderful NHS and front line workers who worked all through the pandemic with very little protection and no vaccine. If they could do it, what makes me think I am so special.

On the other hand, the risk of public transport, and lack of social distancing just really really stresses me out. I assumed it would be late summer or early autumn before that level of travel.

Can you help me get some perspective either way?

Really interested to know where you are?Group six were vaccinated in late February here, (NW England) and had second jabs in April.
I’m 57, no health issues, have had both jabs. They’re onto first jabs for under 30s at one local surgery (we know a 27 year old couple who received their text yesterday, going in at the weekend).
If I were you, I would refuse to go until 2 weeks after my second jab. I don’t believe you can be compelled.

I’m in Scotland, where we are running quite a bit behind England and have to wait for an invitation rather than self booking. There were also issues with my booking letter.

I know they can’t make me travel, but I think it would cause problems for me.

But mainly I genuinely can’t figure out if i am being unreasonable in not wanting to go? Is it just an overreaction to stress? Or is it normal to not want to go yet?

I’m not going to feel safer though, travelling there and then sitting in an office in very close contact with people from all over England.

We had a video call last week and it looked just like before Covid. No distancing, no masks, hugging, kissing on cheeks.

Hmm tough one. Am in the US and DH had to travel to Florida a couple of days after his first shot, but he was able to insist that everyone he met wore masks, socially distanced, had their temperature taken, etc.

I wouldn't be happy about being forced to go into an office with no distancing and no masking if I'd had only one shot. We're still not mixing in offices like that here in my bit of the US, even though most people who want the vaccine have now had it.

There has been some information about requirements when travelling to Ireland which is worth checking, as this may make it impractical to go if I have understood correctly. Martin Lewis was going to clarify.

Suggest you check via the Irish Embassy website.
