AZ vaccine and headache - advice please

I had my second AZ vaccine on Tuesday 11th in AM. (As I'd already had the 1st of AZ before any blood clot changes I had to continue with course or not be vaccinated, I'm not vulnerable to covid and eligible through my job). I felt that the chances of a blood clot were extremely small and that being vaccinated was the responsible thing to do for my family, work colleagues, etc.

I'm 27.

I felt feverish and sick for 24 hrs or so after first dose but nothing else.

This time around I didn't feel so bad but had some tiredness / headache and felt a bit cold for a couple of days.

Now suddenly I've got a headache. It's not that bad but it's lingering all day and nothing gets rid of it.

I'm the last person in the world to worry about blood clots, but I don't know if it's making me overthink the headache or if I should be concerned.

Thoughts please?

Call 111 they will reassure you and probably tell you at what point you'd need checking. Friend had similar, went to A and E they were super efficient, ran checks and said she was fine, they have a whole protocol sent up.

If it were me I'd get an early night and call in the morning if not better. You're 99.9999% likely find.

I’m not sure what to do either. Two days of mild but persistent headache which is not the norm for me. Doesn’t seem severe enough to do anything about it but I do have a tiny bit of concern - but for all I know, is it common after the vaccine?

Angel2702 · 17/05/2021 09:09

I was told at vaccine to get checked if headache was lasting 4 days, I had visual disturbance or excessive bruising.

MRex · 17/05/2021 09:12

Drink lots of water and take a paracetamol. If it's still bad an hour later then call 111 for advice.

dopeyduck · 17/05/2021 19:17

Headache lasted until about lunch time today.
So that's 6 days post vaccination.

Not severe and no visual disturbance or bruising but it was persistent. If it comes back in next 48 hrs I'll call 111.

I have had a headache every day for 7 weeks since my first AZ vaccine. Noone seems to bothered about it as it is my only sympton. It does fluctuate in intensity throught the day.

I am having blood tests tomorrow so no big urgent rush from my GPS although they have known about it from the 2nd week

penni00 · 17/05/2021 19:43

Headache here with me for 8 weeks post AZ jab, other people have been posting about prolonged headaches with AZ. Most have had blood tests, a few have also had scans and all seem to have been given the all clear. I have just waited and waited because it has slowly improved.
Some peoples have cleared after 10 days, some after 2 weeks, some after several weeks, then a few like me that have continued for longer.

Kitcat122 · 17/05/2021 19:48

I had a 10 day headache after my first jab. Never normally a headache person. Fine now.

kirinm · 17/05/2021 20:01

I had a headache for a good week or so after my first jab. It obviously went and was nothing serious.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/05/2021 20:04

I had a headache on day 4 and it persisted for over a week. It shifted with ibuprofen but kept coming back and then went. It was just above the eyes and tension up the back of my neck. Not sure if it was the AZ or stress from worrying about my headache!!!
I do suffer from these types of headaches so doctor said as long as it isn't unusual for me or in one particular part of my head.

MRex · 17/05/2021 20:06

Dehydration headaches can be extremely painful. This may not be relevant to any of you and so may not help, but I was told to drink lots of water and when BIL had a headache after AZ we had him drink a pint of water then his headache went. Whether drinking more water is needed because of a mild increase in temperature or whether it's a placebo, no idea as there aren't good studies on this, but it is worth having a bit more just to see if it helps.
