Anyone catch Covid from child?

Argh I’m panicked the first time my little dds bubbles shut for some positive cases I’m not sure if it was staff and child or both of the same anyway she’s on isolation now and I’m feeling a little worried as this is the first time surprisingly
So I just wondered if your child had Covid were they ok with it and then did you catch it? Obviously as she’s only three I cannot isolate from her or her from her siblings etc

It’s annoying as my vaccine is booked for next week so I’m hoping that I can go for it!

Among the nursery aged children I know who ended up isolating (including mine), there was no spread between children in the bubbles. The only instances I know where there was spread was where it was a staff member who’d tested positive and other staff members caught it from them (it turned out they’d been sharing lifts to work etc).
Please don’t panic, chances are she doesn’t have it anyway.

I know a couple of people who caught it from their nursery aged child. In both cases the baby (and other child in the home) was fine, the parents had it worse, but not terribly.

(Obviously, they can't 100% know it was from their child, could have been a coincidence but in both cases, the nursery closed, then their child tested positive and then everyone else in the house went done with it a few days later).

My 2 year old tested positive, we tested after they had a mild temperature in the night. They were very grumpy the second day, but then fine after that. They've had worse colds. Neither of us caught it, and none of the other children at nursery either. They do say children get it very mildly and don't tend to pass it on.

I know a family who were doing regular testing because of their jobs. Their child got mild symptoms so they got them tested and they were surprised that it was positive.

The rest of the family of course went into isolation but continued to regularly test and monitor the situation.

No other positives or symptoms and the child recovered just fine.

When DD had it as far as we can tell all the children caught it from adults and non of them spread it to other children or adults.

Rosieposie94 · 16/05/2021 19:51

My 4 year tested positive few months ago, just had an occasional cough. The 3 other adults and one child in the house didn't catch it, we wiped down everything she touched but didn't isolate from her

All the cases I know of very young children it is the parent or teacher giving it to the kids. The children don't seem to anyone else.

Thanks all
That’s reassuring I’d heard that they were less likely to spread it but always thought that sounded mad! As they are so good at usually sharing!!

I'm pretty sure I caught it from toddler DD. There had been a lot of cases at her nursery in January although he bubble hadn't been affected. She had no symptoms and never tested her, but I literally hadn't been anywhere else apart from taking her to and from nursery, all shopping was delivered etc so I must've got it from her.

With covid it's strange but young children (pre-secondary school) can have incredibly high viral loads, but they appear to be much less infectious than adults.

Oh yes sounds likely! I heard someone else I know say the same thing! How were you? X

Yes, I caught it from DD last year. She had cold like symptoms for 2 days then was fine.
I felt awful for about a week but then was okay.
Interestingly, DH and other DD didn't catch it from either of us.

shash1982 · 17/05/2021 09:14

Just to add, I was the one who was mainly looking after her and had to perform her covid test, so that could be something to do with it.
