How worried would you be...

... If you'd been to a café, and the café owner/chef found they had covid that evening? Didn't spend long in the café (takeaway) but did eat their homemade cake. I had also had the az vaccine three days beforehand 🤦

Next to entirely not worried. You wouldn't be classed as a close contact. Just carry on, obviously if you develop symptoms then test.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 16/05/2021 09:06

I'd be expecting they were using best practice so I would be safe, especially with the baking, they'd be even more up on hygiene.
Plus you never know if anyone else in the vicinity had it too.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 16/05/2021 09:14

How did you find out?

I’d be nervous but nothing to be done about it now.

itsgettingwierd · 16/05/2021 09:19

Not too worried.

But everyone can get LFT now so I'd do it 2-3 times a week just for my peace of mind!

lljkk · 16/05/2021 09:24

Not at all worried if I had been a customer.

I'm under impression only staff on same shift would have to self-isolate.
I would be rather depressed about being trapped in own home, if I were one of the staff. Worried about my job security, I suppose.

everythingthelighttouches · 16/05/2021 09:27

Not at all worried

purplebagladylovesgin · 16/05/2021 09:30

I'm assuming you are young and healthy if you've just had your vaccine in the last few days as they are now vaccinating 38+ group.

Your vaccine status won't help you in this instance as not enough time has elapsed.

It's unlikely but possible you'll catch it as Covid hangs about in the air for three hours and you'd have taken your mask off to eat.

But, statistically you are unlikely to get sick with covid. Just keep an eye on your symptoms and if you are worried get a test or do a lateral flow test to detect symptomless covid.

Lindy2 · 16/05/2021 09:32

Did you keep your distance? Were you both wearing masks? Was the transaction brief and the cafe ventilated?

If it's yes to all of those then I think you should be ok. I would be doing regular lateral flow tests for the next 10 days though to be sure.

If the answer to any of the above is no then your risk is greater.

I think the hone baked food should be ok though. Baking would kill any virus in or on it before cooking. Your digestive system should also kill off any virus if it did get into your gut. Hopefully you weren't rubbing your eyes or picking your nose while eating.

Try not to worry too much but stay vigilant for any symptoms, no matter how mild.

Watapalava · 16/05/2021 09:34

Honestly if I sat in a room 1-1 all day with someone with covid I wouldn’t be worried

The level of fear created is ridiculous

WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead · 16/05/2021 09:42

Thanks for the replies. They seem like a perfectly hygiene conscious place. It's a two-man-band, so they both prep and serve all the food. They put a post on Facebook that evening to say they wouldn't be opening the next day, and then another post the following day to day they were self isolating. I'm guessing they did a LFT promoting the first post, and then had a PCT to confirm.

WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead · 16/05/2021 09:43

I've just ordered myself some LFTs.

OP posts:
WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead · 16/05/2021 09:43

Prompting not promoting

Lindy2 - that's interesting about the virus being digested. Thanks!

Doireallyneedaname · 16/05/2021 12:09

I’d be worried tbh. Did you check in on track & trace?

RedcurrantPuff · 16/05/2021 12:25

I wouldn’t be worried, I’m fully vaccinated.

WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead · 16/05/2021 15:31

No track and trace, as they're only doing takeaway at the moment.

I had someone in my house for over an hour who tested positive for CV a few days later (developed symptoms the day after being at mine - her DH already had symptoms but she came round regardless!). Anyway, neither me or anyone else in my family caught it.

I expect you’ll be fine!

lljkk · 16/05/2021 18:54

OP just stepped inside the cafe door long enough to collect a take-away?

WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead · 16/05/2021 19:36

Well I was actually waiting in there for 10-15 minutes... Very small café, with the door open.

OP posts:
Imnothereforthedrama · 16/05/2021 19:39

But I’m assuming you were distanced , you’d not be classed as a close contact .
10-15 minutes are you sure ? Usually they make you wait outside.

WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead · 16/05/2021 19:39

I was mainly concerned about eating food (sandwich and cake) that a covid-infected person has made, rather than being in their presence with masks for a short period of time.

I’m not aware anyone has caught Covid by eating food that was prepared by someone I mean I assume they wash their hands.
WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead · 16/05/2021 19:56

Yes, you're probably right (I hope!). I've got a weekend away booked in a couple of weeks, and I was worried I might have to cancel it. Hadn't realised that there was a difference between ingesting the virus (hopefully unlikely anyway, if they've been following basic hygiene practices), and inhaling it.

OP posts:
ImInStealthMode · 16/05/2021 19:59

Not worried at all. Last year I worked a full shift with a colleague who subsequently tested positive; I wasn't even classed as a close contact as we'd both been in masks / gloves throughout and didn't spend more than a few seconds at a time within 1 metre of each other.
