Cancel vax appointment to let higher priority to go ahead?

I’m 38 so became eligible to book a vaccine this week, which I duly did. First appointment next wed.

Now with the announcement that groups 1-9 will now be shortened I feel, assuming it isn’t cancelled by the NHS, I should cancel it myself and let the more vulnerable to first. After all I’m still young(ish) and have no health issues and am not overweight etc

Does anyone else feel this way?

Interesting replies thanks everyone.

As a side note, I wish as well they’d make the second appointment more flexible for everyone. It only offered a choice of two days, due to my work patterns they were not suitable. Meaning you have to book two appointments, then have the first one and cancel the second and rebook as there doesn’t seem to be a way to have more flexibility on the second.

I am of the opinion that people faffing about with their appointments is a massive waste of NHS time

This in bucket loads. The amount of people ringing doctors, changing appointments, not turning up is making their job 10 times harder. Just book and go.

Just get it done OP. It’ll help reduce transmission.

And your slot isn’t necessarily going to be taken up by someone in groups 1-9.
I’m in group 6, my 2nd jab is due in about 4 weeks - AZ, which you’re not likely to be offered anyway - and I’m not planning on cancelling that, in case I can’t find another appointment sooner at a suitable time.

If you want to make a useful gesture OP, you can donate the cost of your vaccine to UNICEF who are facilitating the vaccine rollout in developing countries.

YABU keep the appointment yourself.

OP I'm a 57 year old who's 2nd jab is booked in 3 weeks. I'm hoping it's going to be brought forward but need to wait to be notified.

I'm putting my trust in the system, and think you should too.

But thanks for being so thoughtful and considerate for people like me - have some Flowers

Tulipomania · 16/05/2021 08:15

SixDegrees I had same issue as you - I called NHS and was advised not to cancel my existing appointment but to wait to be notified it was being brought forward.

rosie39forever · 16/05/2021 08:41

Everyone invited should get the jab, you're not taking someone else's jab and cancelling won't make any difference, the more people protected the better for all of us.

sorry to be gloomy, but the Indian variant has spread everywhere now in the UK and in India many people in their 30s have died. Statistical analysis may find that it causes more serious illness in younger people than the previous dominant variants.
Get the vaccine.

HappydaysArehere · 16/05/2021 09:37

Get it done or you will muck up the numbers which won’t be helpful to anyone including your contacts.

kimlo · 16/05/2021 09:41

my second vaccine will be brought forward now. Dh is 38 and has just had to rebook his first when it was canceled because they didn't get their pfizer delivery. I need AZ so his appointment would have been no good to me.

LIZS · 16/05/2021 09:44

Mine should be brought forward but unlikely to bump younger ones' appointments as due AZ.

The system is worthy of your trust! I’m 57 too, was booked in for early June for my second. Got a text last Monday bringing it forward, I’m fully vaccinated now Smile

It was incredibly slick too. In and out in about 4 minutes.

All the best.

That's great to know Denise, thank you!

I am 55 and was texted at 7am to book my second jab this week (will be 91/2 weeks) by my GP. They've obviously found the doses and/or agreed to some overtime.
