DD covid test ex DP not agreeing advice

Looking for a bit of reassurance that I'm doing the right thing getting DD3 a test. She woke up today with stuffy nose, sore throat and a dry cough but otherwise fine overall. For context we are in a surge area. DD just started in new preschool and looks set to miss her first full week. Ex DP thinks I'm being hysterical that she likely just has a harmless cough and that I'm overreacting and being cruel by self isolating unnecessarily. He is concerned about her missing her first week (as am I) but my social conscience won't let me send her in. I'm doing the right thing aren't I?

Have similar issues with my ex. I follow the guidance, every time with my son's health. Do what your gut tells you.

onetwothreeadventure · 14/05/2021 23:41

If you get her a test over the weekend you’ll probably have the results by Monday morning so she could go if it’s negative and she’s well enough?

My two youngest have covid symptoms at least once a month since returning to nursery but always negative tests and nursery is happy to take them back then when they’re feeling up to it

Just get a test and then you will know, quickest and easiest way out of this.

Nannyamc · 14/05/2021 23:46

Go with your gut. No harm in testing
Better to be safe than sorry

whataballbag · 15/05/2021 07:56

If you get a test today it'll be back tomorrow more than likely.

Alfaix · 15/05/2021 07:58

You absolutely must test.

Dozer · 15/05/2021 07:58

Unless DD was with him this weekend wouldn’t even have consulted your ex!

MRex · 15/05/2021 07:58

Yes, at others say you'll most likely get the results by Monday so she won't miss any time.

LawnFever · 15/05/2021 08:01

Get the test, but even if she’s got a bad cold should you send her in if she’s poorly and likely to spread it to all the other kids?

kimlo · 15/05/2021 08:11

Get the test. Preschool will only send her home for a test anyway and at least this way you are in SI over the weekend.

Get the test today, drive through or walk through if you can that way you'll have the results by tomorrow.

cakefanatic · 15/05/2021 08:14

We tested on Thursday at 0800 and had the results by midnight. It shouldn’t take more than a day or two to come back, the longest we had was 36h at the peak.

Suzi888 · 15/05/2021 08:18

YABU if you aren’t going to do a test, just because you’ll be isolating all the time?Hmm

MadeForThis · 15/05/2021 08:31

Test results are coming back in the same day here.

jumpbounce · 15/05/2021 14:49

How will she miss a week? If you get a test and its negative she can go back 48 hours after the last fever (and presumably she doesn't have a fever so therefore can go straight back)
We have a vulnerable DC who only started school a couple of weeks ago when shielding ended, they are YR having missed most of preschool due to illness and then covid and now missed the majority of YR. Took a cough and fever on Sunday night, had them tested first thing on Monday morning, we all self isolated including siblings on a Monday, test results back Monday evening negative everyone able to go back to normal apart from sick DC who will probably miss a couple more weeks of school.

Frazzled2207 · 15/05/2021 15:16

If you get her tested today you’ll get a most likely negative result tomorrow so can send her in monday with a clear conscience.
Complete no-brainer

BunsyGirl · 15/05/2021 15:16

If she’s got a cough the preschool will send her home anyway unless you can show them she’s had a negative test.

I don't have a car so I have to wait for a test to be delivered by post (2 days) then I have to book a courier (another couple of days) then wait for results (48 hrs). That's the system here anyway!

Maybe things have changed since you last booked a home test? Ours came in the post the next day. We did it straight away, put it in the priority post box and got results back within 36 hours.
Just book a test straight away. You've already lost nearly 24 hours.

MRex · 15/05/2021 20:01

Are you sure the test centres are that far away? We have a couple just under a mile away, so very easy to walk there.

Anyway, it really doesn't matter what obstacles you put up, she had a cough so she needs a test or you can't send her to nursery. The sooner you get that done, the sooner you get a result.

I'm just going by what 119 said this morning. Mail is not immediate plus I lose a day because tomorrow is Sunday = no post! That's the system for us maybe it's more efficient elsewhere.

It seems that access to testing is not equally accessible in all areas and results take longer in some areas than others.

I'm leaving this thread now but to update I've booked a test and our household will isolate until we are told otherwise. Ex DP will just have to accept that! Best wishes.

Well done OP. Just to note whenever we have had a covid test delivered it’s come by courier who do deliver on Sundays. And the priority postboxes are collected every day so not as much of a delay as you feared

MRex · 15/05/2021 22:23

Good luck!
