Remember all those people who were attacking the UK government for following this strategy? They’re very quiet now.

But remember the government is now racing to offer the second dose, time has been cut to 8 weeks. So which is it?

Whitty literally just said which!

8 to 12 weeks has always been the recommend time frame. Like he said you need 8 weeks to get as much benefit as possible. It is the manufacturers that have been insisting on a 3/4 week time frame. They are the ones who the research has proven wrong.

This one needs to be taken with a grain of salt. The paper itself has not been released. The results are not unequivocally good. There is reduced T cell reactivity with the longer gap, which might be crucial for long term durability. Also other issues raised by Hilda Bastion here:

Pfizer themselves had a small 6 week trial that was also successful.

Wouldn’t surprise me if 6-8 weeks was the sweet spot.

Hopefully

Though we have got pretty good figures for cases, hospitalisation and deaths. With the 8 to 12 week gap. I suppose it is just a matter of how longevity of the vaccine is or is not effected. Only time will tell 🤷‍♀️
