Will the new variant affect your socialising plans?

After things looking promising, the panic is back over this new variant which is causing devastation in India; and has been allowed into this country, some might say due to laxity from the government.

Although things are going ahead as normal on Monday, will it affect your plans at all? I'm not sure i'll feel comfortable in an indoor pub or restaurant yet, but i'm due a vaccine soon so in my case what's a few more weeks after 14 months?

No. Fuck it.

Abraxan · 14/05/2021 21:05

Re plans, next week dh and I have a meal indoors planed with two friends on Monday (albeit booked months ago), a meal indoors at local pub with a parent midweek and then a train journey and London hotel visit at the weekend. The week after we have a week away in Scotland planned inc flights there and back.

All going ahead as present.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 14/05/2021 21:06

Since another lockdown could be imminent, I will make the most of my freedom now.

Mum2jenny · 14/05/2021 21:06

Remember, everyone has to die at some point in their lives. However I’m going to party as much as I can within the legal restrictions

santabetterwashhishands · 14/05/2021 21:07

Nope because although I love being outdoors I'm fairly antisocial anyway 🤣
I'm more concerned people are going to think they can hug me from Monday 😳and I don't do that tish whether there's covid or not!

Merchymor · 14/05/2021 21:08

Table booked for Monday evening.
Hotel booked for bank holiday.
Can't wait.

TabbyStar · 14/05/2021 21:09

No. Had covid. Been vaccinated. Plans tomorrow cancelled because of the rain. I'm single, work at home alone, am desperate for some adult socialising.

Mum2jenny · 14/05/2021 21:09

Agree, I do not like being hugged by everyone ever! And certainly not in the Covid era!!

trying29 · 14/05/2021 21:13

Yes - currently isolating due to Indian variant wiping out almost all of my sons primary school in south London and waiting for surge testing . So all socialising cancelled for now

UserAtRandom · 14/05/2021 21:20

The main things I'm wanting to do is to see my parents and my in-laws. They've been vaccinated and we will socially distance and avoid sharing things. Can't see how this is more risk than my children going to school every day.

Probably the right idea. I should have took that approach last summer.

I bloody hope not, I’ve just spent a fortune on days out and festival tickets for this summer!

I’m due my vaccine soon so will feel happier once I have that. But it won’t stop me from carrying on as normal. Vaccine or not.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 14/05/2021 21:30

No.

Dongdingdong · 14/05/2021 21:32

Panic? Speak for yourself. I’m not panicked at all and have booked an indoor table in a pub on Tuesday. I can’t wait.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 14/05/2021 21:37

After the debacle at Christmas, you never know what is round the corner,

Katie517 · 14/05/2021 21:38

Not making a blind bit of difference to me. Every time we have been close to a round of easing restrictions there have been “announcements” around how scary new variants are, they come like clockwork. This will be another one of those that in 3 weeks time they find isn’t more transmissible, deadly or evades the vaccine!

I don’t think there will be another lockdown but I will be making the most of the indoor things that are opening up, we have been seeing family and friends indoors for a while now anyway (as have most people) so that won’t make any difference.

secretllama · 14/05/2021 21:43

No, couldn't care less about the new variant if I'm honest apart from the fact I'm sick of hearing about it. Will be socialising as normal.

luckylavender · 14/05/2021 21:44

@Oblomov21 - I'm alright Jack. Localised restrictions don't work.

lljkk · 14/05/2021 21:50

There's an elderly chap I volunteer for.
He's had an interesting life & I've heard very little about it.
Quite looking forward to a proper cup of tea together.
Whenever allowed.

Nope - more likely to make sure I socialise while i can in case of another lockdown.
I've seen my family 2 days out of the last 20 months (400 miles away). There is no way I'm not seeing friends when I can, my mental health has taken a battering and I need to see actual people who I'm not married to or gave birth to for fear we have another lockdown.

I've had both vaccines, friends have had at least 1 vaccine, rates are incredibly low where I live. The risk to my mental health is far greater than catching covid at this point.

PrincessNutNuts · 15/05/2021 01:39

@Oblomov21

Not a chance. Bolton should have dealt with their own issues locally. As should the London areas with the Indian variant.

This has really hacked me off. It's not a uk issue. It's localised. So deal with it. Thus scaremongering is damaging to businesses and the uk economy.

It's "localised" to over 50 different areas across the country - and spreading.

We can't really give all the vaccines to Bolton and take them away from Colchester, Bedford, Hart, Armagh, North Norfolk, Mendip, Thanet, Havant, West Devon, South Gloucestershire, Erewash and all the rest of the places whose cases have doubled it more than doubled in a week.

OnTheBrink1 · 15/05/2021 01:41

@Scarby9

Well, a friend has just rung and suggested staying at mine for the night a fortnight from tonight and I have said no. I don't think it is particularly because of the variant, but that does seem a big step to me. I need to work up to it more slowly after 14 months of no one in the house.
Why???
RedcurrantPuff · 15/05/2021 01:48

Not me as cases are overall low, I’ve had 2 vaccine doses, and I’ve eaten out indoors 3 times already. Looking forward my birthday celebrations soon with some friends and a drink.
