When you say "covid deniers" or "conspiracy theorists", I guess from your other posts on similar topics that you include anyone who doesn't agree with your zero covid desire and your hope for yet more lockdowns?

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 14:30

Did you skip reading the bit about me not wanting more lockdowns? Did you read the article which revolves around not wanting more lockdowns.

How convenient for you. Do you feel better now? I do hope so. Have a good day!

Considering this is an internet forum, reading comprehension is not a prevalent skill it would seem.

Ian Dunt's main biology experience was editing Erotic Review, so you might want to consider a wider range of media, Sage minutes etc. Vaccines are working, the number of cases have increased uncomfortably but are still low, surge testing is taking place, and there's talk of targeting additional vaccines in vulnerable areas... There is plenty action for where we're at right now with low cases overall and many small steps that could tighten up if needed without losing our way out of lockdown. There's no need for panic just yet.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 14:38

He has summarised the situation not provided the evidence! He's a writer lol

Vaccines take weeks to ascertain a decent level of immunity. Also they are in short supply.

No one is panicking. Just imploring people to arm themselves with the facts and move cautiously forward on Monday.

Yes go on, let's, just for fun.

I'll start. Given the amount of "we don't know" statements in the article, what is the actual point of it?

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 14:57

Lol. Exactly!! Love your attention to detail. That is indeed the main message. Jackpot. We don't know so let's not be arrogant twunts about it and set our progress back so far that we head into another lockdown.

Or in fact, we don't know that there aren't going to be new variants every month for the next three years - there may indeed be, so what would you like to do? Never open up? There has to come a point in time where we make the decision that enough people have been vaccinated so that the NHS is not overwhelmed. I'm not sure if you remember, but right back at the beginning, the goal was never that no-one would catch Covid, it was that the NHS would be able to manage those that did catch it - we somehow seem to have lost track of that end goal. Now it appears to be an end goal that we can die of anything else that the NHS fails to deal with, but God forbid we should die of Covid.

So, my question remains, what was the point of the article, other than to say we don't know what's going to happen? That's life. We don't know. There is some risk. We cannot live locked down forever, it just doesn't work.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 15:04

I'm not saying don't open up. I don't know why people think taking precautions equates to not opening up. Its exhausting to keep typing the alternatives. I will at some point but I'm out of juice right now.

OP posts:
SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 15:05

I'm saying things cannot go back exactly as they were before covid. That doesn't mean we need to be locked down though. That's the whole point. To avoid lockdowns.

There is a middle ground but it requires us to change our behaviour a bit.

Do you honestly not think everyone has changed their behaviour massively? I'm not entirely sure what you want to happen. Sorry if I've missed something obvious.

So - social distancing remains as of Monday
masks in public areas remains as of Monday

That is massively changed behaviour from 18 months ago.

Do I think children should still be wearing masks in school? No, I don't. They make sod all difference and are a panacea to the scared.

Do I think it should be illegal for people to mix inside in groups of 6? No, I don't. It's been too bloody long and for a risk that may not even be there.

Travel - meh - that's a slightly difficult one. I don't know.

AlmostSummer21 · 14/05/2021 15:16

@Seriouslymole

My opinion is that things will change once far more of the population is vaccinated.

Bolton has a low uptake of vaccine - we need to be getting the uptake rate up in the parts of the population that aren't engaging.

We don't need to be lifting restrictions so fast, give the vaccination program a better chance of success to AVOID another hard lockdown.

How long it has been, isn't relevant to how safe it is.

People can meet outside much more safely, so why not stick to that for now? (There are various bubbles for those who need them)

No masks in schools - I think we should keep them until at least half term & reassess then.

What's your evidence for keeping masks until half term and reassessing then? Why do you think it works?

Where is the risk assessment that it is "safe" (as that seems to be the word of choice at the moment) for children to wear non-surgical masks all day?

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 15:32

Agree with AlmostSummer on all points.
