Would you stay in London right now?

Supposed to be having a night in a London hotel early next week and have been looking forward to it for ages but I’m getting a bit nervous about it now the Indian variant is becoming a problem in London.

Am I being ridiculous? Would you go?

accentdusoleil · 13/05/2021 20:42

Yes! Definitely! Go enjoy yourself

KelKachoze · 13/05/2021 20:43

Yeah. But then I stay here every night. Just like the millions of other people who live here do. It's fine, OP.

Retrievemysanity · 13/05/2021 20:57

Personally, yes, I’d go but depends on your circumstances I guess. Have you been vaccinated? Are you in a high risk category?

harridan50 · 13/05/2021 20:58

Yes had a lovely day in london with my daughter last weekend

1Hazel1 · 13/05/2021 21:01

I stay here every night too! The Indian variant is a bigger problem in places like Bolton - they have way more cases than London does at the moment. Also London cases are mostly concentrated in areas which aren't known for being particular tourist hotspots. I presume you are thinking of going to central London so you'll be fine I'm sure.

Queenoftheashes · 13/05/2021 21:04

Is the Indian variant here? Oh dear. I’m not planning on cancelling anything though. I’ve been waiting months to go for tapas

Passthesauce · 13/05/2021 21:06

Absolutely! We went in on BH Monday (before the weather turned, although it did feel as if we lunched in a wind tunnel....) and it was great. So much quieter than usual (we did an open top tourist bus - a bargainous 50% off) and that was in the West End. I can imagine the City is deserted - it seemed so from the bus.

Already planning more trips in the coming months - we're about to move our summer hols to next year and are a bit too late to book in UK, so city breaks are definitely on the radar. We live quite near London (DH commutes in every day in normal time) but are thinking of staying at least one night as it's so much quieter and set to stay so without overseas tourists. It's such a good city, all the more so without the daily irritations.

Go and enjoy it before it gets too busy, OP!

Passthesauce · 13/05/2021 21:07

Ps - I spent far too much time with the DDs in Primark, the least socially distanced place I have been to for ages. We are all still just fine!

Cindersrellie · 13/05/2021 21:09

Yes I would, and I'd enjoy it too!

Earlgrey666 · 13/05/2021 21:12

Yes I would definitely go!

NotBot · 13/05/2021 21:14

100%! I’m going in a couple weeks for half term 🙌🏼 Hoping I might have had my first vaccine by then..

Lostinacloud · 13/05/2021 21:17

Yes, don’t let the government propaganda put you off returning to and enjoying normal life any longer.

JorisBonson · 13/05/2021 21:18

Millions of us live here and travel around every day. It's fine.

Irishterrier · 13/05/2021 21:20

Of course, it's fine. I assume if you're vulnerable you're jabbed, so I don't see the problem.

Pivotthesofa · 13/05/2021 21:22

Thank you, either DH Or I have been vaccinated yet as we are in the 30-40 group so don’t expect to be called up for a few weeks at least.

Not vulnerable.

Travelling on train and by taxi so was feeling fine and looking forward to it (we used to live in London and I miss it) but a few friends have made comments and it’s given me a wobble

OP posts:
Stircrazyschoolmum · 13/05/2021 21:37

Definitely come! It’s so so quiet at the moment, public transport a dream and really clean. No queues, no crowds and the museums / galleries etc open again next week. It’s been blissful.

MindatWork · 13/05/2021 21:44

We went the first weekend outdoor dining and self contained accommodation opened up - 2 nights in a soho Airbnb and it was absolute love bliss!

DH and I are both under 40 although we both had covid over Christmas (DD2 brought it home from nursery as a lovely festive gift Sad) so we weren’t so worried about catching it again, but we’d have gone regardless.

Enjoy!

bitheby · 13/05/2021 21:48

I have been for a night a month for the last few months. It's fine. Extra cleaning, masks in communal areas, sanitiser.

PeterPomegranate · 13/05/2021 21:52

Yes Hmm I live here.

Fauvist · 13/05/2021 21:57

There's practically nobody in central London compared to normal. No need to worry! Unless you were planning a romantic weekend in Hounslow or something.

littlepieces · 13/05/2021 21:59

Haha yes do it. Hardly any reported cases in my borough for weeks. (We've probably all already had it!)

partyatthepalace · 13/05/2021 22:05

Yep, but I am generally here. It’s fine

Twizbe · 13/05/2021 22:08

I live here so yeah....

Seriously though it's fine. In my post code no one has tested positive for months now. My borough only had 2 positive tests yesterday. No deaths for ages either.

Went up into town today, wondered around Westminster with my 4 year old. All good here

Dongdingdong · 13/05/2021 22:24

I wouldn’t if I were you. Honestly, it’s like the zombie apocalypse here right now. Save yourselves!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 13/05/2021 22:26

Same as the above poster, it was like a scene from Shaun of the Dead trying to get to work this morning. In fact I’m still there now because all he infected are swarming under the window.

Oh wait. It’s fine. Just people going about their business and living their daily lives....
