Why are all the toilets closed 'because of covid'?

In homebase today, and the sign on the toilets said 'closed because of covid-19'. It's the same in lidl, b&q, and lots of other shops.
I was in london the other week and resorted to asking a church to let me in (must have looked desperate as despite the signs saying not for public use, the verger let me in!).
It's no good opening cafes and selling me drinks, it has to come out somewhere.
When will these places start using sense and opening up again? Today, I didn't need a pee, fwiw, but if it had been another day, or my period had been more insistent what would I have done? I had to drive home from the shops a few months ago or I would have wet myself.

When we voted earlier this month they had a box of pencils. You took one, used it and put it straight into the bin.

Absolutely wasteful. I absolutely refuse to believe that anyone is catching Covid from a fucking pencil.

I’ve had to buy my son a potty even though he’s only 11 months old and keep the potty in my car.

The potty is for me. Blush

So if toilets are having to be cleaned after every use cos COVID, then how come there isn’t an army of cleaners in every shop, cafe, waiting room etc cleaning all the things that countless people will have touched while there? I see people picking up things in shops, putting them back, fiddling with masks in shops. In cafes, people are touching the chairs, tables. In waiting rooms people are sat on chairs and yet there’s no cleaning in between each person sitting. Are busses getting cleaned when each passenger gets off? Somehow all these examples are seemingly less of a COVID risk than toilets, where there are hand washing facilities, and generally have regular cleaning as standard. I really don’t get the thought process there.

Not entirely the same but a lot of the things that are changed "because...covid" actually makes less sense about keeping people apart. The local boots to where I work has 2 entrance/exits. One is permanently closed since last year, so everyone has to use the same door (admittedly it's not particularly busy) . If they were counting people in and out to restrict numbers I would understand it's easier if there is only one entrance/exit....but they aren't! Similarly when I went in Debenhams last year nearly all the tils were closed "because...covid" meaning enormous queues (hence lots of people standing close to each other) at the one til that was open!! (...and because the fitting rooms had been closed a large % of people queuing were returning stuff!)

Once coffee shops etc opened for takeaway ,we had regular news reports from residents in a scenic walk/cafe culture area of the city complaining of people weeing by their properties and even defaecating in their flower pots etc...if its deemed safe for shops to open for any outside or inside service than I think it should have been compulsory for businessess to open facilities.Particularly as the rationale for our council closing many of our public loos down was that they were encouraging businessess to oen their loos to the public!

Cant say I’ve really had a problem with toilets being closed. Tesco and Lidl toilets remained open. Not sure if the park toilets were open however but it could be because I’ve not been too many places. I have crohns and have to be careful that there is a toilet where I go just in case. I’ve applied for a radar key though so hopefully that’ll help if I can use those. But reading this will make me think twice if I’ve to ‘go’ whilst visiting my mum down south eventually

Cafes are cleaning tables in between customers or at least they should be. Most I went in in between lockdowns had a sign to say whether or not the table was clean and you turned it over when you sat there, which then indicated that it needed to be cleaned again before a new customer could use it.

@tulips27

Are loos open on trains? I haven't been on one recently.
I only know they are open on trains as my friend was texting me some bloke was sat in one from Kettering to London ish

Really struggled with working mobile recently snd going toilet.

First lockdown police would pop into my work just to use our toilet.

I think there's quite a bit of "let's take advantage of it" going on.

If a business doesn't have to pay for toilets to be cleaned etc for a period of time, they save money.
