Can I drink before my vaccine?

I have my vaccine tomorrow afternoon but really fancy a glass of wine or two tonight. Is it okay to drink before you get the jab?

I had wine last night and my vaccine today and it didn't occur to me that it would be a problem. I probably wouldn't advise turning up drunk though ...

I thought from the title you meant have a drink immediately before, to calm your nerves or something.
As PP say if it were considered important enough we would hear more about it.

RedcurrantPuff · 14/05/2021 01:20

I didn’t before mine as it was at 8.40 am ;)

I didn’t have a drink night before or for a couple of nights after. Glad as second time I had some side effects with the second AZ - night sweats and body aches. Fun.

Just don't go to the appt under the influence. A single drink won't hurt.

Strokethefurrywall · 14/05/2021 02:01

Meh. I was at work drinks the day of mine, I felt horrendous but the wine actually took the edge off.
Went home and slept for 14 hours

I had three large glasses of wine! Not feeling 100% this morning. Would you still go for the vaccine or cancel?

A friend of mine was drinking literally 10 minutes before she had hers.
She got a phone call asking if she could go immediately and let them know she'd had two glasses of prosecco, (mothers day afternoon tea), and they said it was fine.

I didn’t drink for a few days before or after, because I was concerned that if I had any kind of reaction, a hangover would make it worse. I’m old enough tgst I can be a bit headachy after a large glass of wine these days.I didn’t have a reaction, no symptoms or anything. A friend of mine had his on the Saturday morning, had 4 pints on the Saturday pm and then had a 2 day hangover?!

Obviously, these two anecdotes are not at all representative of the wider population x

Go. You’ve got a mild hangover. You don’t think it’s anything else do you?
Springersrock · 14/05/2021 08:40

I’d have thought if drinking was a problem, they’d tell you when booking/at the appointment.

I had my jab through my GP, I have a weird blood platelet issue so he called me to book it and we had a chat about the jab - he never said a word. Nothing was said at the GP when I had the jab and there was nothing in any of the paperwork I was given

I’d go - I don’t feel 100% after 1 glass of wine these days, after 3 I would end up with a monster hangover

Sisisimone · 14/05/2021 08:45

Just go. Its absolutely fine, really

123banana · 14/05/2021 13:45

When I had my first jab (OAZ), I also got a copy of the information leaflet that comes with all medicines, there's a copy on-line: www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca/information-for-uk-recipients-on-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca

The only mention of alcohol is that the vaccine contains a tiny amount.
