If you are exposed to someone with Covid, but then have a negative test, are you still required to self-islolate, and for how many days?

Yes - the negative test only means you haven't got it now. YOu may still develop it. Isolation is 10 days from when oyu were in contact with the infected person.

Angel2702 · 12/05/2021 11:25

Yes you could test positive at any point during the 10 days a negative test does not mean you are not incubating covid.

palacegirl77 · 12/05/2021 11:27

You start counting the 10 days from the day after you were with the confirmed case.

Mindymomo · 12/05/2021 11:41

The rules haven’t changed but unfortunately some employers seem to think if you get a negative test, you can return to work, when you should still isolate for the full 10 days from last contact or as advised by track and trace.

ClaudiaWankleman · 12/05/2021 11:55

If you think you've been in contact with someone who has COVID-19, but you do not have symptoms and have not been told to self-isolate by Test and Trace, then you should just continue to go about your life and maintain distancing/ mask wearing etc.

If you've been told to isolate by Test and Trace then you isolate for 10 days from the latest of 1) when you had contact with the infected person or 2) when you develop COVID-19 symptoms.

Unless you mean regular LFTs you shouldn’t be testing if you are self-isolating
Unfortunately you have to do the 10 days regardless
I do wonder if this will stop for vaccinated people though as there are quite a lot of us. Possibly when everyone has had it, in the interest of fairness. Really isn’t sustainable long term is it.

Tulipomania · 12/05/2021 16:40

Thanks for confirming. The person in question had a negative LFT, and has also had their vaccine first dose, but not the 2nd, but clearly they have to continue with the self isolation.
