Would you leave them having the vaccine util after their GCSE assessments? It is just a couple of weeks away. I wasn't sure if it havd many side effects in that age range?

They are being given it as 16 and in household of CEV.

My first thought was yes, I would. But then DH pointed out that it might take the second jab beyond the recommended 12 weeks. So my answer is: it depends on deadline.
Also did your DC have a reaction after the first dose? Will he/she have any particular important assessments the next day after vaccination?
My DD has got her place at college already so I’m a bit relaxed about assessments results.

They haven't had the first dose yet. They book the second at the same time so that shouldn't be a problem. They have suggested a slot this week after school but think they have an assessment end of the week so will wait a bit. Most assessments seem to be the following week so might wait till after that if that is OK in terms of booking.

I'd be inclined to wait. I had horrible side effects after my first one, although admittedly that was AZ and presumably your DC would be having Pfizer.

I have teenage DC (Y10, Y12 and Y13) and they are already hugely stressed by the assessments etc, I wouldn't want an extra stress at the moment.

Here the assessments finish at the end of this month, so it wouldn't be that long to wait.

I'm CEV too, but not with a condition that means my DC are eligible for vaccine priority so I haven't had to think about this.

my 16y old had it for the same reason and had absolutely zero side effects. Slight tender arm if you really pressed it (we tested it as couldn't believe it Grin) but he was utterly unaffected. Adults I know we're all wiped out for a day or two, including us. I too would have waited due to another couple of weeks of GCSEs, mainly because he needs all the help he can get, but I really don't think it would have are any difference. I'm sure you could book for end of the month though just in case.

Ok thanks for the replies, think we'll leave it until after next week then.

As someone who had both teens vaccinated 2 weeks ago I would say yes wait if you can

Dd was fine afterwards but Ds was lethargic and had a mild allergic reaction lasting 4 days

Which just shows you don’t know how they’re going to be afterwards, could be fine could need a few days off
