Do receptionists know which vaccine you will get for 1st dose ?

Just wondered, but if at a GP surgery type hub and you book in when they are doing 2nd dose Pfizers on that day (they normally do AZ now), does anyone know if the staff on reception will be able to tell what vaccine you will get for 1st dose ? Especially given lots of people may need to know if they might feel rough the next day (as what happens with AZ on 1st dose quite often but is opposite way round with Pfizer). I am booked in on such a day but I have no idea if they are doing Pfizer for everyone or just 2nd doses, and AZ for 1st dosers. I don't want to ring the reception to ask and bother them yet if people on here who work in such places know that they won't know. I am booked in mid afternoon if that makes any difference to these places.

I will be honest, at 42 years of age yeah I am a tad nervous about AZ but I also want to know if I do have AZ that I better not make plans the day after. Where-as with Pfizer I know I will probably be okay 1st dose then rough day after 2nd dose.

Yes they should either know or be able to find out for you. X

Cookerhood · 09/05/2021 21:39

Most Pfizer's at the moment are second dose because they always intended most people to have AZ. Of course that has changed a little now but they have to be sure of supply in 3 months time.

Rillington · 09/05/2021 21:40

It's been the opposite way round for anyone I know. The ones who had Pfizer have been ill and the ones that have had Astra Zeneca including me have been absolutely fine.

How2Help · 09/05/2021 21:46

Day after Pfizer 1st dose I was a bit floored. After 2nd dose had bit of a sore arm otherwise totally fine.

SunshiningBetty · 09/05/2021 21:51

I didn’t want AZ so told the receptionist that. So she booked me in at the Pfizer clinic. I’m 44. No problems. It seems daft to have a completely inferior vaccine if a choice is available.

Now that's just silly. It's not inferior.

Rillington · 09/05/2021 22:00

@SunshiningBetty a vaccine that has saved a lot of lives is not inferior. Educate yourself.

LIZS · 09/05/2021 22:01

Ours will only offer times to book for the relevant type - so certain days will be Pfizer second doses, others AZ second.

Standrewsschool · 09/05/2021 22:02

I was poorly for 48 hours after Pfizer. You can’t predict how you will react.

This was the case but it isn’t anymore. Pfizer will be 1st dose supply going forward. It’s the reliable supply we have been waiting for. But some centres might still have AZ stock they are using up.

From this week all new 1st dose supply will be Pfizer. Increasingly AZ will be off the menu.

I am educated thank you. To PhD level so quite capable of reading and interpreting research papers. AZ is the inferior vaccine. I didn’t say it was useless but it is inferior. So given the choice it was sensible for me to get Pfizer. Maybe you need to educate yourself.

Why not listen to these wise words from possibly the worlds best vaccine creator?

It can only add to your understanding and could change your life.

PickAChew · 09/05/2021 23:50

Well sort of. Ds1 was given an appointment then had it changed because it turned out it was the wrong one (he's 17 so can't have AZ, even before the current stuff)

Ceedeells · 09/05/2021 23:51

I think you both need to educate yourself.

Why not listen to the possibly the worlds best vaccine creator. He can tell you immediately what the best vaccine is.

Not everyone has side effects. My dads 72 had 2 Pfizer 0 side effects at all.
I have an aunt in her 50s 2x AZ , had a slightly sore arm.

In Scotland you don't book your appt its booked for you and you gwt an info booklet.

For AZ the headache is described as worse than any you've had before, pain relief doesn't help. You may feel weak or have speech disturbance.

But seriously the more you go in expecting side effects the more likely you are to get them.

AppleJane · 10/05/2021 05:08

@LemonTT do you have a source for that info please?

Mindymomo · 10/05/2021 07:17

My DH had the Pfizer vaccine and had more side effects than me. I had AZ and didn’t even have a sore arm.

Twickerhun · 10/05/2021 07:36

Holy mother of God do we just make stuff up on here now?

Looks that way! Some people said their loved ones who got blood clots still went to work so this description is BS. Please don't anyone wait until your speech is 'disturbed'.

I don't think those are meant to be the regular symptoms - they're the warning signs for a possible blood clot. If you get those you should seek medical help.

JimBobNoJob · 10/05/2021 12:56

Anyone I know that’s been to a GP hub in my area have said that the vaccinations being given on that particular day are signposted on the wall. But failing that the receptionist should be able to tell you.

Also, you can get side effects with all the vaccinations, there’s no rhyme or reason to it. Some people do, some people don’t. You won’t know if you’ll be affected until you’ve had the vaccine. So can’t predict what will happen.
