Vaccine tomorrow but under the weather?

I am due to have my first vaccine tomorrow but have not felt great since yesterday, I think it's the end of the cold we have all had this week as I have a slight cough. I had upset stomach last night as well. I did a lateral flow test this morning and it was negative.
I am not nervous that I am aware of! Is is advisable to still have the vaccine? Google suggests a few different views, one is to wait until fully better, and another is as long as only mildly unwell with no fever then its OK to have it.
Has anyone else had the vaccine when not feeling great?

They ask you if you feel unwell... Not sure what happens if you say no... They might make an informed choice & let you go ahead

Bubblemonkey · 09/05/2021 18:15

I’m on antibiotics at the moment & had my second dose this morning.

Overthebow · 09/05/2021 18:18

You have a cough, is it a new cough, with more than 3 coughing episodes in 24 hours? If so you need to test and isolate, and reschedule your jab.

TheVolturi · 09/05/2021 19:36

No it's an intermittent slight mucus cough as a remnant from a cold. Felt off for a week or so now. We were all tested at the start of our cold and were negative.

Did you have your PCR test before or after the cough developed? If your cough started after the PCR test then you need another PCR test and to isolate. It doesn't matter if the cough is only slight or intermittent. If you are coughing, you have a cough.

And you should rebook your vaccine if your cough is new, as it's too risky to go into a room full of unvaccinated people with a possible COVID symptom.

But if you had your negative PCR test after the cough developed, then it's fine to go if you are feeling a bit under the weather: www.nhsinform.scot/covid-19-vaccine/invitations-and-appointments/at-your-coronavirus-vaccination-appointment

"If you feel unwell
If you're unwell on the day of your appointment, you should still go for your vaccination if it's a minor illness without fever.

If you feel very unwell your vaccine may be postponed until you have fully recovered.

Do not attend your vaccine appointment if you feel unwell with symptoms of coronavirus. Self-isolate and book a test instead."

Yes I had a cough when I had the test, that's why we all went to be tested. My children were kept off school until we got our results, but we were all unwell so I would have kept them off anyway. The cough now is just the remnants of it. Just still don't feel great.

Personally I would probably cancel and rearrange the appointment if I was not feeling well already

DinosaurDiana · 09/05/2021 21:41

If you’ve been ill, and are feeling better, then you’re ok to have it.
If you’ve got a fever you aren’t.

Tealightsandd · 09/05/2021 22:21

I hope you feel better soon OP.

You say you used the lateral flow tests? They're not recommended for when there's symptoms. They're far too inaccurate. You need a PCR test.

I know it's a real pain and disappointing to have to wait but it would be better to rearrange. It's not just about the risk of potentially spreading Covid, it's also that the vaccine is likely to be less effective for you when your immune system is already fighting a virus (whether Covid or a cold).

HalfJabbed · 09/05/2021 22:29

The leaflet you get with the AstraZeneca vaccine says to tell them if you have a severe infection with a temperature above 38 degrees but that you shouldn't delay getting jabbed if it's a mild infection: www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca/information-for-uk-recipients-on-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca
I presume the leaflet focuses on the effectiveness and risks of having the jab when you are ill, rather than whether you are at risk of infecting someone else though.

Tealightsandd · 09/05/2021 22:35

That's interesting HalfJabbed
Yes just had a look. It says to go ahead If it's a mild infection like a cold. Don't know if the same applies if it's mild Covid?

If it's mild Covid you're supposed to self-isolate, not hang out at a vaccination site...
Tealightsandd · 09/05/2021 23:15

I would agree. Which is why I think OP should get a PCR test.

Why?

She had one and it was negative.

OP if you can still do most of your daily activities I'd go.

Tealightsandd · 09/05/2021 23:21

I thought she had a lateral flow?

YankeeDad · 09/05/2021 23:25

If you can reschedule it easily and get another date that is pretty soon, and if that is not too inconvenient for you, then I would be tempted to say, reschedule it. I am not a medical professional; this is just personal opinion.

Reason is this: these vaccines are very safe and effective, but many of them do have short-term side effects. In case you go now and then feel "rough" after the vaccine, you won't know whether it's vaccine side effects or from whatever else you had.

1WayOrAnother2 · 09/05/2021 23:30

Reschedule

1.You might get turned away (they do ask how you are).
2.You don't want to pass on what you have - even if it is not covid.
