Just had the Pfizer. Tell me it was the sensible decision to make. I suffer from anxiety.

I'm 30. No risk factors. Breastfeeding.

You’re fine. Relax. Have a cuppa and a biscuit.

rainbowunicorn · 09/05/2021 11:36

Well it is much more sensible than getting covid and potentially getting very ill, risking passing it on to others etc. I would just thank my lucky stars that you got it so soon as many places are still in the late 40's age group.

I am not sure why you would think it was anything other than sensible to be honest.

Thank you. Once I've gotten home I will do that. DH is getting his later today.

You are incredibly lucky to have been vaccinated so early before those older that are still waiting and with Pfizer as well.

You will be fine.

I like to analyse and agonise and really think about this stuff beforehand, but last night I checked the link my GP had sent all the over 30s and, for the first time, there were available slots. So I've gone from no expectation of having it to having had it in the space of less than 12 hours. I think it's freaked me out because it's all been so quick.

Great move! Have had both Pfizer injections myself. People of any age can be badly affected by covid-19, and vaccination protects more vulnerable people.

Londontown12 · 09/05/2021 11:57

Had my 2nd dose Friday !! Try not to think about it x

Spied · 09/05/2021 11:59

You're very lucky! Pfizer too!!

nordica · 09/05/2021 12:06

Lucky you. I feel like the last one left still waiting to become eligible. 38 and in London, hearing Wales is now vaccinating 18 year olds.

Why is Pfizer seen as a prized achievement when it has its quota of serious side effects? Still well done OP now just relax and take it easy!

Cheers for that reminder, mate. Really helps with the anxiety.

FWIW, they gave me Pfizer because I'm under 40. They offered both at the centre.

sensible decision! Any of the approved vaccines is much better than no vaccine, and the Pfizer vaccine is particularly good.

Population data from Israel show just how good this one is.

The only caution is that the vaccine needs time to "work". You have no benefit for the first 2 weeks or so after the first dose. After that, the first dose gives some protection, but the really powerful immunity comes about 1-2 weeks after the second dose.

MissConductUS · 09/05/2021 12:29

My 19 year old DD had her second Pfizer jab yesterday. I also had Pfizer, as have my DH and DS. None of us have had any side effects worth mentioning. The overall rate of serious side effects is extremely low.

You'll be fine. Smile

PurplePumpkinDream · 09/05/2021 12:30

@Puntastic sorry it wasn’t meant like that. If you are under then that’s what’s been decided but I know of older people who have just walked out when confronted with the AZ.

Anawi · 09/05/2021 12:42

Of course it was the sensible decision Smile I'm sure you'll be fine, and hopefully pass some immunity to your little one too.

Lol I had AZ and I'm 25. Did freak me out a tiny bit but other than feeling a bit iffy for 2 days I was fine. Congrats op

ThornAmongstRoses · 09/05/2021 13:21

Hi Op,

I always suffer from anxiety and I was a nightmare prior to my first vaccine, I kept asking the nurse question after question and she said, “are you sure you want this done?” Grin

I was fine for the first 24 hours but then I started feeling a bit tired and had a muggy headache but not only lasted a day and then I was fine.

I also had the Pfizer.

When it came to my second jab I was even more anxious than when I had my first, but purely just because of my anxiety, not any rational reason.

I was absolutely fine after my 2nd jab.

You will be okay OP, just try and distract yourself from the worrying thoughts Flowers

Pfizer is the the better vaccine, in fact the mRNA vaccines in general are performing better against covid variants. Unsurprising as they are the most up to date scientifically and this is the first time they’ve been used on such a wide scale. Aside from Covid, this is opening up amazing opportunities for vaccines for other diseases that just weren’t responsive to more traditional vaccines. My money is on the standard vaccine for covid being an mRNA one in the future.

All that said AZ is a decent vaccine and if the mRNA ones hadn’t materialised as quickly it’d be doing a perfectly good job. We could have easily be sitting here today with no vaccines at all and it’s pretty amazing that there’s even a competitive conversation about them.

Before the AZ controversy all the worry I saw was over mRNA being used at all because it’s such a new technology and I’m still slightly bemused at how that’s disappeared to be replaced by concerns over AZ.

I agree Pfizer has its own list of side effects and adverts events but these have been lost in the media spin. I’ve had both jabs of Pfizer and both times had worse side effects than anyone I know who had AZ (perfectly manageable side effects I should say but you couldn’t ignore them as such).

PurplePumpkinDream · 09/05/2021 13:52

@Cornettoninja Thanks that’s what I really meant. You explained it clearly. All vaccines are going to be a source of worry especially if you suffer from anxiety but then the fear of Covid is even greater.

Thank you. I will try. I hope I don't get a headache though- I don't need to be convincing myself that I've got a blood clot!

Great news OP! DP and I both had our first Pzier jabs this time yesterday and not a side effect between us.

My arm is just a tiny bit sore if touched but no worse than a bruise.

Tempusfudgeit · 09/05/2021 15:20

Minimal side effect, just a sore arm!
