Can attractions insist children wear masks?

Thenthatsthatthen · 09/05/2021 08:59

Wanted to meet DSis at an outdoor attraction (involves animals) with her DC but having looked on the website they are insisting anyone over 3 must wear a mask and if you don’t email they with proof of DLA/PIP you have to wear a mask or you’ll be refused entry.

DNephew is 6 and being assessed for ASD/ADHD as we speak, there’s no way we’d be able to keep a mask on him all day. But as he has no official diagnosis the attraction does not consider him exempt.

DSis was given annual passes for this place for Christmas and is facing not being able to use them at all due to this policy. I appreciate they want to keep the animals safe but it seems unfair when the government guidance is still children under 11 are exempt. Does she have any comeback here? Or does she have to except she won’t be able to use the annual pass (they also won’t refund this or extend it to cover they months they’ve been shut).

Surely if you can’t comply you should stay away? If I was a fellow guest and others weren’t following the directive set out prior to entry I’d be livid. I wouldn’t want to be near anyone like that especially if I’m a paying customer. Stay away and let those who can wear masks have a stress free time.
Thats what they're planning to do. They're not going because a small child can't wear a mask. But they've already paid for season tickets so should they get a refund if they can't come? I think yes.

HesterShaw1 · 10/05/2021 13:46

Wow, someone’s triggered 🤣

Christ, grow up would you!

And so they should be. Your comment is disgusting. Your should be embarrassed, not laughing. Are you always quite so nasty? Or is it just when taking about disabled people online?

You’ve lost me there- where exactly have have I been nasty about disabled people?

Note I was replying to someone telling me to stay (the fuck) at home and you have the Gaul to tell me I was being nasty. 🤯

In your now deleted comment - you know exactly.

@BittyBatHats

In the US all kids over 2 are wearing them for sports/playground and throughout the school day with small breaks. They do just fine. Our 2.5 year old wore hers no problem.
Oh come on. Don't bullshit us. Half the adults in the US refuse to wear masks, and very deliberately so, so please don't try to tell us that all children over two are wearing them. The states can't even agree on a common policy!

You'd be livid about a child not wearing a face mask outside. Catch a grip eh.

HesterShaw1 · 10/05/2021 16:17

So you complained to MN about being told to stay (the fuck) at home if you didn't want to encounter anyone not wearing a mask? In the full knowledge that this is a phrase which has been doing the rounds on MN for over a year, and is used in an ironic way. And you have the "Gaul" to pretend that you don't understand why posters have taken exception to a now deleted comment you made about people who are unable to wear masks should stay in, you would be livid if you encountered any of them and you don't want them near you. This even though you cannot be unaware that many people who can't wear masks are disabled or have some condition/trauma which means wearing one is impossible.

Aren't you a peach?

StillCounting123 · 10/05/2021 16:18

None of my DC have a disability, but no way would I take any of them anywhere where they had to wear a mask, as I am not keen on them for children of any age.

My choice, yes, and I'd be prepared to vote with my feet. So these rules need to be well advertised in advance so people can decide.

I really think the OP's sister should be able to either pause her season pass, or else get refund. Unfair otherwise.

newnortherner111 · 10/05/2021 16:39

There are alternatives to a mask that can be a face covering. A scarf for example, which is easier to remove.

However, if a venue wishes to insist on them, they should be required to have it clear at the time of booking (an 'are you sure' click perhaps), and refund any season ticket or advance booking in full. In a short timescale, not the months Ryanair have taken to refund.

Spectrumofhumanlife · 10/05/2021 16:41

The Gaul?! What is that?

Spectrumofhumanlife · 10/05/2021 16:42

I wouldn’t want to be near anyone like that

You wouldn’t want to be anywhere anyone like what?!
You sound like a vile human being, so I wouldn’t want to be near anyone like you.

The Gaul?! What is that?
She probable mean gall As in gall bladder
SpnBaby1967 · 10/05/2021 17:15

I thought we had passed the point in human history where people who were disabled and couldn't "conform" (for want of a better word) to rudely dictated norms put in place by small minded people had long passed.

I see from @Thewiseoneincognito post that this isnt the case and once again people who are disabled and therefore cant conform should be banished to their own homes lest someone else has to "be near anyone like that"

Awesome, isnt humanity great Hmm

osbertthesyrianhamster · 10/05/2021 17:19

@bellamountain

My family are in Texas in the US and even the adults aren't wearing masks now so it's not true the whole of the US makes kids wear them. I would refuse to visit any attractions which make kids wear them.
This is true.

I wouldn't visit an attraction that discriminates against people with disabilities.

Why do people come up with this BS? It's not true.

If it is Monkey World, we are due to go at Half Term, but not sure it is a good idea. Eldest gets DLA, but is fine with a mask, youngest is not diagnosed yet and doesn’t get DLA - he may struggle.

He loves animals, so we are going to go but it may be a short visit.
