First headcold since having covid and being vaccinated. Common cold has completely floored!

As above. I've not had a cold in 18 months. I had covid last march and again in November. Both times it took me weeks/months to recover. First vaccine was 6 weeks ago and again I was unwell and exhausted for 2 weeks +.

I have been very very busy over the past 3 weeks (year) and I've not had much/any time off work, stressed etc. So i am rundown and worn-out.

Now I have a headcold and I can barely keep my eyes open. I slept 14 hours last night and feel like I've only had a few hours. My body is slow, aches and I'm so very weak. This is ridiculous considering it's just a cold. I'm literally exhausted. If it wasn't for the DC I'd be in bed all day asleep.

What on earth is going on.

If if helps, I’ve has 3 horrendous colds this winter. Like, left me in bed feeling dreadful. Multiple covid tests each time were negative. I needed steroid tablets for my breathing twice (I do have asthma). I’ve not had any vaccine yet.. there are some nasty colds kicking around.

My doc thinks there’s a couple arguments. One, our immune systems are weaker from less social mixing. And for examples like me, I had covid in December & the three awful colds Jan-Marc. He wonders if covid is weakening immune systems a bit as I wasn’t the first he’d seen with shitty colds following covid.

How do you know you had covid in March? Was it a serious case? As that probably has an impact.. unusual to catch it twice so I’d almost certainly say your immune system is out of whack. I’ve been trying to boost mine, upped my vitamins, added iron (bloods showed I was bordering on anaemia) eating more fruit & veg, regular exercise to keep my body healthy.. trying to get a decent nights sleep but I have a 3 year old & 1 year old so that’s rare 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hope you feel better soon!

Welcome to my world!

This is a box standard cold for me.

In your case, the fact that you're stressed will have made a HUGE difference. Your body is basically saying "I can't cope any more!".

Take the time, recover properly and your body will thank you afterwards.

I get terrible colds, usually feel fluey for a couple of days. This is pre-Covid, they just affect me really badly sometimes. Obviously other times I just get a runny nose and headache.

I think immune systems are probably affected by not mixing as much, and perhaps if you've already had Covid as well that's having an effect too.

Have you had glandular fever?

Could you be anaemic?

Youaremypenguin · 08/05/2021 14:30

I've not had glandular fever and I don't think I'm anemic. I've been asleep for another 2 hours and im still tired.

I knew I had covid in march because I was so ill. It was confirmed by my doctor's. I wasn't in hospital but had every symptom going.

I've had similar cold, no obvious symptoms apart from body aches, fatigue and just floored. Both DH and I had it. His lasted for 1.5 days and mine for 3 days (i've had covid before). You should feel better in a day or two fingers crossed

Your body has had a hard time and probably is low on resources to deal with even a mild infection. Concentrate on getting the most common culprits into your diet; iron, vitamin D (supplements are probably best for this), B12 and Omega 3 along with a generally healthy balanced diet and plenty of water. If you don’t notice a general improvement in a couple of weeks maybe speak to your doctor about a blood test to check whether anything obvious stands out.
