Child cold

Hi never had to deal with any of this till now. All our family have had colds/ sore throats this week. I’m ok but my partner and two kids have had cold symptoms. Everyone got a test at the start of the week and we are all negative. My sons got a party this afternoon, can he go? He’s still got a bit of a cold but a negative test? He’s crying as he wants to go. He’s 10. Obviously i wouldn’t dream of it if the tests came back positive or we hadn’t had a test or waiting on results

Technically yes, but if it were my party I wouldn’t want a child with a cold there regardless of covid. Is he at school today?

Quartz2208 · 06/05/2021 12:19

Is he at school and is he at school with children going to the party?

DS had a cold in September when we were due to visit friends and we didnt go because it wasnt fair to take a virus that was in his school to another school and other people who would have to be tested.

If he is at school with them it has already been passed round.

If he is off sick today then he isnt well enough. Its tough but these things happen! Try being the birthday child!

No he hasn’t been at school all week, bank holiday Monday, then off today due to the schools shut, in Scotland. Tue and wed I kept him off due to his cold. We have all been off work/school due to waiting on covid results

Why is school closed today?

Moonpeg · 06/05/2021 12:42

It’s not a heavy cold, a few sniffles. No cough or sore throat or temp with him. His tests negative, so I’ll be sending him to school tomorrow.

Because of the voting, they have decided to shut the primary schools in Scotland, well in my area anyway. As if they haven’t been off enough this year.

I think they can still go to school with a common cold. But as a family and my partner not feeling right, cold, sore throat, we decided to get tested.

I would let him go. It's just a cold. Kids have missed out on enough his year.

trevthecat · 06/05/2021 12:54

I would let him go. They have missed out on so much this year and he has been tested. Hope he has a great time

Astronaut8 · 06/05/2021 12:55

Let him go, negative test. Being with friends will do him good

FelicityPike · 06/05/2021 12:57

@TheVolturi

Why is school closed today?
Scottish schools are closed for the election. In-service day for the staff.
roguetomato · 06/05/2021 13:18

The thing is, even if it's only cold, if he spreads to other children and they have the symptoms, they need to get tested, right?
I wouldn't be happy about that, tbh.

Moonpeg · 06/05/2021 13:23

But if they still have a cold they can still go to school

Topseyt · 06/05/2021 13:26

Give him some Calpol and let him go.

Quartz2208 · 06/05/2021 13:34

Moonpeg is the birthday party for children who he will be at school with tomorrow because if so there is very little difference between him going today or tomorrow.

If it isnt they you are spreading a virus that people would need to be tested for

sunflowertulip · 06/05/2021 14:29

It's hard because technically yes he can go, but I'd personally like parents to keep their children home until better so they don't spread the cold and then make others catch it and have to isolate while waiting for results.

If it's an outdoor party and he's not got a streaming nose etc I'd probably let him go on balance - if he is likely to pass cold I wouldn't.

roguetomato · 06/05/2021 14:47

Only you would know if he's recovered enough and not likely to spread.
Since your whole family came down with it, and bad enough for you to get tested, the cold seems to be very contagious. I wouldn't send my dc unless I'm sure he has recovered enough not to pass it on to other children. That would include not sending dc to school too.
No one wants to isolate and wait for negative test result atm.

Quartz2208
Yes there is only 5 at the party and all in his class

Moonpeg · 06/05/2021 15:14

In the end he never went to the party but he’ll be at school tomorrow.
