Anxiety and Vaccine

My vaccination is booked for today. I suffer with anxiety and I'm feeling really anxious about having the vaccination today. I'm worried about the side effects and actually having the vaccine then panicking when they've done it.
Any other anxious people have any words of wisdom for me to give my head a wobble!

With vaccine, you know exactly what to look out for, the different symptoms between normal side effects and rare ones are clearly stated. But with covid, you don't know when you may get it, you maybe asymptomatic and may still suffer from long covid.
Odds are far better with vaccine, imo.

Thankyou. That's a good way for me to look at it actually.

Completely understand your feelings yucca. I'm due my second AZ next week, and extremely worried (have severe health anxiety).

Post above is a great way of looking at things - easier said than done I know!

I think I'm more worried about having a meltdown once it's been injected. But I'm just thinking go, get it done, come home and carry on with my day as normal. It's not helping that I've had anxiety for the last few days anyway I don't think.

I started crying at my vaccine appointment. My anxiety over this whole situation has been sky high. I can sympathise OP. Admittedly this was a week ago and it's still affecting my mental head space.

idontlikealdi · 04/05/2021 11:12

I was in and out so quickly I don't have time to be anxious once there, so hopefully you don't have to queue or wait around. I hop it goes well.

bookworm1632 · 04/05/2021 11:32

The ONLY way to deal with anxiety once you've recognised that it's not helpful, is not to think about it at all - to push any thoughts that lead down that trail out of your head in the same way you might push aside a craving for a cigarette, or a cream cake (when you're on a diet) etc

Because anxiety isn't rational, you cannot reason your way out of it.

You are right. And I am trying to do that before my appointment later. I've suffered anxiety for years and I do know the only way to get past it is to focus on something else and not let my thoughts take me down a route where I'm going to feel anxious.

Well done OP. Most people worry some more than other, eg some like me it is what we are.

too much worry is not good and i worry about worrying too much but it is who i am.

i worried re first jab more so second jab and still am worried with all the news etc

on balance, i had the choice to go for it or not. i just wished the gov/mhra share more details, honest details sooner

I'm a born worrier and coupled with anxiety some things are a nightmare to deal with. I explained to the nurse how anxious I was and she was great, didn't rush me - even though there was quite a queue and explained everything to me. In the end I just said do it now. Took seconds and I was walking out of the door. Now I'm bracing myself incase the side effects hit but I'll ride it out if I'm one of the unlucky ones.

Im glad you got your head round it and got it done. I have awful anxiety, was in such a state for about a week prior to both my first and second AZ vaccine. But I did them both, now just got to ride out the next few weeks as the blot clot risk window is up to 30 days post vaccine so once I’m past that I don’t think I’ll give it any more thought.
Fingers crossed you don’t get too many of the nightly side effects. I had a day of feeling rotten after my first, and nothing but a sore arm for a few days after my second x

whataballbag · 05/05/2021 20:34

I'm really struggling with the thought of having my second. I get very obsessive over health I've done nothing but google the risks for days now, barely eating, sleeping etc. Anxiety is so shit

LazyDaisy10 · 05/05/2021 20:55

I'm so worried about having it! Worried Ill have a clot or what if there are some side effects years later? Obviously there's risks with covid but I might not get covid, if I get the vaccine I'm willingly putting myself in danger aren't I. So anxious about it at the moment

Senso21 · 05/05/2021 21:16

@whataballbag this is so me - Google myself mad, now paranoid about any pain I’m getting in my head and keep thinking I feel breathless but I know it’s just my anxious crazy mind!

whataballbag · 05/05/2021 21:24

Exactly my thoughts. I've already had the first, I'd probably be much worse if I hadn't

PurplePumpkinDream · 05/05/2021 21:34

Same here so many with HA and Covid first and the jab side effects after have played havoc with my mind. Still we now know we are not the only ones to feel that way and hopefully feel more reassured.
