Post covid (unintentional) weight loss

I'm starting to get a bit worried about DH and ongoing weight loss since he had covid in 2020

Smell and taste have not returned which seems to have had a permanent effect on his appetite (he was formerly a natural 'glutton')

BMI now down to 20. Pre covid it was between 22 and 23. He looks gaunt.

He is doing lots of exercise (think Mumsnet classic DH 'hobby' Wink) but not replacing adequate calories

He is eating 3 meals a day but clearly needs more

My BMI is 20. It’s smack bang in the middle of the ‘healthy’ category. But I’m 5’7. I assume your OH is a bit taller? BMI is only relevant with height- does he fall into the healthy category or is he now in the underweight?

Exercise is good. If he was a glutton before, then it’s probably good & far healthier he isn’t anymore! To be honest, it must be shit not tasting things properly. I’d probably not bother eating much either. I’d eat healthy stuff so I knew I was fuelling my body but I’d probably not snack etc!

I’d say your first stop is some help on getting his taste back?!

He is 6' 4"

Yes, I know BMI 20 still falls within 'healthy range' but he has dropped from about 22.5 to 20 (lost over a stone) in quite a short space of time so it is likely further weight will drop off if he doesn't increase calorie input

Healthy BMI is 18.5 to 25 so 20 is towards the lower end of healthy rather than "smack bang in middle"

I am also a "good eater". I am recovering from covìd and lost my sense of taste and smell three days ago. I have never gone off food so fast in my life. All the pleasure is gone. It feels like a chore. I think he will be just eating what he needs to stay alive like I am. It is only the hunger that makes you put things in your mouth without the taste. He will be very slim if that's the case. I'm trying with the smelling jars thing to try and get my senses back because eating right now is very depressing.
