Overweight and terrified of the vaccine

I’m 43 so can book my covid vaccine now. I’m pro-vaxx, I believe in science and I’m all for it. However, I’m also 4 stone overweight and panicking I’m going to get a blood clot and die, leaving my son motherless. I know that’s not rational but fear isn’t... can someone please talk some sense into me?
I’m otherwise fit and healthy, decent blood panel all came back good (bloods done privately because my mum died before she was done living and I don’t want that to happen to me. I know that’s anxiety talking btw) I don’t smoke, I don’t drink alcohol, I eat 5+ a day literally the only card against me is my weight but all I can think is blood clots. I wear compression socks on long haul flights would that help the day of the jab? Someone talk me down here!

If you're overweight the risk from a Covid-induced blood clot is FAR higher than one from the vaccine. The very best you can do is get vaccinated. Being overweight is a massive risk factor for serious illness and death from Covid - even in your 40s.

roguetomato · 04/05/2021 07:55

Your chance of getting a blood clot from vaccine is very small. And you know what sign to look out for after being vaccinated. On the other hand, you don't know when you may catch covid, and chance of you getting blood clot is significantly higher than vaccine.

Just want to offer a hand hold. Good advice on here Flowers

I’m having my 2nd vaccine today.

The risk from covid is far greater than it is from a blood clot.

Outcomes for Covid and the likelihood of Long Covid are worse with a higher BMI. I was BMI 30+ when I had Covid and had debilitating after effects for months. If you weigh up your risk it's a bad idea to avoid vaccination. I couldn't wait to get vaccinated as I don't ever want to go through that again and I will have my 2nd in a couple of weeks.

Thanks all, just what I needed to hear! Jab booked for next Wednesday 👍🏻

That’s great news. I do feel safer now I’ve had both.

ilovesooty · 04/05/2021 14:56

That's great news.

Frymetothemoon · 04/05/2021 14:58

Seriously, your weight puts you at massively increased Covid risk. Just do it!

MrsBennetsnerves · 04/05/2021 16:25

Great news, OP.

SonnetForSpring · 04/05/2021 17:47

Vaccine is a much better option than catching covid. Maybe speak to your GP if you have concerns Flowers

I'm 50, had AZ about 6 weeks ago now, and am more overweight than OP. I had a bit of a headache the next day, but not even a sore arm afterwards. The chances of side effects from the jag are much less than the potential side effects of actually having COVID (my 21 year old dd had it last year and was washed out for weeks).

Ponoka7 · 08/05/2021 21:22

I'm 53, five stone overweight and have had clots in the past. I was concerned so spoke to my Consultant. It is only the under 30's who are at risk from these particular type of clots. So you are out of the danger age.

LondonWFuck · 08/05/2021 21:28

It's not only under 30s at risk.

RedcurrantPuff · 09/05/2021 00:22

I’m 48 and BMI putting me in group 6. The risk of clots is way way way less than the risk of serious Covid illness
