How's France doing now? Is my DH a bit deluded about our holiday going ahead?

We have a campsite booked for the end of July, (rearranged from last year, originally booked in Jan 2020 so pre-pandemic).
DH really thinks we'll be able to go. I think we need to accept we'll be staying in the UK this year because even if (when) travel restrictions are lifted, it seems very unwise to go abroad.

I would really really love to go to France and sip lovely wine in the sunshine. But it ain't going to happen, is it?

Assuming we're allowed to go and any quarantine is at home not in an hotel we will still go. Booked it last October thinking no way will COVID still be a thing by then, ha ha. We went last year when no one was vaccinated so seems ridiculous not to go this year. DH and DPs will all have been fully jabbed, me DS and DBIL will have had at least one and children are all under 11. We drive so airports not an issue. If we were flying I would be thinking long and hard about whether I could cope with long queues at security with the children and that would probably be a no.
@underneaththeash no quarantine in France!
Rules are changing so quickly I can't keep track but doesn't the "on my honour I will self isolate for 7 days" requirement still apply?

OP, really hope you get your holiday. However, we booked a last minute camping trip in August last year, despite camping being popular. Given you're camping anyway, a UK camping trip might be a good back up.

I’m watching this thread with great interest as we are booked to go to Spain in our touring caravan and we usually go via eurotunnel.

Frazzled2207 · 04/05/2021 18:57

We are booked for late august. Rescheduled from last year tbh. I reckon chances of going are 30-40% but we will not go unless virtually certain not to have to quarantine on return

Neonprint · 04/05/2021 19:28

It might be legally possible but would be morally reprehensible to go.

I would love to hear why. Morally reprehensible?

that's pretty strong language. We will only be going if both of us are fully vaccinated (looks currently likely) and if there are tests on going and return that's fine (as long as not too expensive). If we have to quarantine in either direction we won't bother. But not because it would be morally reprehensible.
Lostinacloud · 04/05/2021 19:53

Morally reprehensible. What rubbish!

More reprehensible to allow your usual everyday life to continue to be restricted for no reason. The population is vaccinated, viruses mutate all the time and covid has already done so thousands, if not millions of times, and still they haven’t been able to show that any of the mutations are resistant to vaccine or natural immunity.

Yes, this. Lots of people went abroad last summer without concern. I was pissed off that I missed out. So, booked a tunnel ticket in January when I was in the middle of all the lockdown gloom - cheered me up. I think we'll probably go as long as there is no quarantine on return. Might not go to France, might drive right through to Spain or Italy or Switzerland. Who knows.

That's quite harsh!

QuentininQuarantino, "I love the etymology of curfew as couvre-feu (not remotely relevant sorry!)"

I was thinking that, too. Completely lost the point of the thread!

Normandy144 · 05/05/2021 07:06

We're booked for end of July and driving across. I'm not cancelling anything unless I absolutely have to. I booked in January (that must make me very immoral)! Fortunately we can both work from home so can quarantine on return if needed. The government have suggested that the green and amber lists will be changed every 3 weeks so there's still a lot of time before then for France to go on the green list. Plus as others say France will have progressed through their vaccination program by then and rates will be low. I fail to see how summer 2021 can be worse than summer 2020.

newnortherner111 · 05/05/2021 18:43

I would not be expecting to go, or at least the likely restrictions when you return seems not to be an acceptable option for you.

Neonprint · 05/05/2021 18:51

@toucantoucaninatree could you explain how it is harsh?

toucantoucaninatree · 06/05/2021 22:42

@Neonprint I'd like you to explain why it's "morally reprehensible"
