Can my husband take our two girls to buy shoes?

At a supermarket?

One or other of us has been shopping alone all the way through but we need to get summer shoes for our dc and none of them have had their feet measured at in car goodness knows when.

He scoped out the shoes they want when he did the food shop yesterday so he know which ones and where they are. Is he okay to go in with them, go straight to the shoes, try them on and pay for them with the hand scan thing and then go again?

Yes he’s fine loads of kids are in shops with parents

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 02/05/2021 09:47

Yes, of course!

Bordois · 02/05/2021 09:47

Some places still aren't letting people try things on, but otherwise yes, he can.

WooYa · 02/05/2021 09:48

In all supermarkets I've been in, it says you aren't allowed to try on clothes in store...

Trixie78 · 02/05/2021 09:48

Yes you should do it 👍

ineedaholidaynow · 02/05/2021 09:51

Shoe shops are open now aren’t they

Hophop26 · 02/05/2021 09:58

Yes! It’s good that you have been cautious throughout, but kids shoes are essential and even non essential shops are open. All show shops are open etc and you can go in with both children in any combination you like to get fitted etc. Clarks are taking appointments for fittings (can then buy elsewhere if you want etc)

hauntedvagina · 02/05/2021 10:10

Why aren't you taking them to get their feet measured? I don't understand why this needs to be a covert dash with scanners in a supermarket?

Branleuse · 02/05/2021 10:11

can you buy a foot measurer first?

Scottishgirl85 · 02/05/2021 10:19

Your caution is quite extreme. Shops are full of kids/families. Non essential shops are open, take them to a kid's shoe shop and get proper fitting shoes rather than guessing size in a supermarket. Adults can go to pubs now, imo children have suffered enough in all this, get them out and back to normal life, and get them in proper fitting shoes Grin

TokyoSushi · 02/05/2021 10:20

Yes of course! Have you seen inside supermarkets recently? People are pretty much as tung as if it was normal, but with a mask on! Go, get the shoes, it'll be fine!

Spectrumofhumanlife · 02/05/2021 10:21

Of course he can, but alternatively he could just take them to a shoe shop and get them fitted.

UCOinanOCG · 02/05/2021 10:23

I agree with PP that you really need to get their feet measured properly first. You don't have to buy the shoe shops shoes if you would prefer supermarket ones but tbh if you can afford it I would prioritise at least one pair of properly fitted shoes for them.

greenlynx · 02/05/2021 10:26

We went to the shopping centre yesterday and saw wellies for DD. I was not sure as well what’s allowed but they’ve told that we’re allowed to try on. I’m not sure about the supermarket. Do they usually allow to try on ? In our local Morrison’s it’s buy and try at home and then bring back as they basically don’t have any space to try on.

idontlikealdi · 02/05/2021 10:41

Why are you even questioning it?

Remmy123 · 02/05/2021 10:41

Why wouldn't he be able to go to a shop with his two kid's .. im finding this question quite bizarre and even more bizarre you are asking a bunch of strangers from the internet.

DelurkingAJ · 02/05/2021 10:43

I took DSs for a shoe fitting as soon as the non essential shops reopened. And the lady said they were booked out. So no problem at all!

Spectrumofhumanlife · 02/05/2021 10:44

It appears people have lost the art of being able to think ‘my children need new shoes. Shoe shops are open and offering fittings. I will take my children to the open shoe shops to buy them the shoes that they need’.
audweb · 02/05/2021 10:45

The only issue might be that they can’t try them on.

But us single parents have been shopping with children for the whole pandemic, so there really is no issue taking children.

LolaNova · 02/05/2021 10:46

All sounds quiet extreme to me. Just book them an appointment at a Clark’s or independent shoe shop?

Tarzaan · 02/05/2021 10:47

There's been kids running up and down
the aisles and mum dad and kids shopping together for weeks.

It doesn't need to be like a secret mission.

4PawsGood · 02/05/2021 10:47

Our supermarket has big signs up saying ‘please shop alone’. I found this out when I rocked up with my two children (have been doing online). I was the only person in there not on my own and feel quite uncomfortable. I think it’s reasonable to want to check.

Maybe phone and ask if shoe trying on is allowed because if it isn’t you can just buy (alone) and then swap if they don’t fit. Presuming supermarket isn’t too far.

FurForksSake · 02/05/2021 10:49

I don't think this is a silly question. Lots of shops have had single shopper only signs up and now it feels confusing what is and isn't allowed. Particularly if you haven't been in the shops much due to lack of need.

We want to go to a garden centre as a family today (husband and I need to go together so kids need to go) but we aren't sure whether we are allowed!

LolaNova · 02/05/2021 10:51

@4pawsgood
What about single parents, working parents, breastfeeding mums etc? It’s simply not practical, especially with numbers so low and easing of restrictions, to be enforcing any such rule.

TimeForLunch · 02/05/2021 10:51

It hasn't been a problem to take kids shopping since the first lockdown. I know some shops have signs up to suggest otherwise, but the reality has been very different, thankfully. Despite this, case numbers have plummeted so it probably didn't need to be case ever.
