AZ clot risk time line?

JC17fj74 · 02/05/2021 07:40

What is the time after having the AS jab that you are in the danger zone for possible blood clot risk?
At what point can you relax and dismiss any headache as anything related to the jab?

I'm sure I've read 4-20 days post-vax. My leaflet though says up to 4 weeks after, so I guess the first set of numbers are the observed timeframe, but 4 weeks is erring on the side of caution until they have more evidence.

More info in link above. Generally in younger people and those with certain underlying conditions.

I wondered this too. Is it actually 20 days or is that the cut off where if an adverse reaction happened it alone attributed to the vaccine? I mean this as an actual question, not anti vaccine, I’ve had both diesels and had my second a few days ago. I’m crippled with nerves now and every little twinge in my head wondering if this is it! It would be good to know the danger zone is definitely over after 20 days.

Poppytroll · 02/05/2021 08:41

*wouldn’t be attributed

SexTrainGlue · 02/05/2021 08:48

You can report on the Yellow Card scheme whenever potential side effect happens.

The evidence, as it exists at this stage, shows that adverse events happen within three weeks

minniemomo · 02/05/2021 08:54

Typically around 14 days, I think it was officially 4-28 days but remember that it's possible to have a completely unrelated clothing event that gets attributed to the vaccine due to timescale so the outliers might not be causal. Be aware for 4 weeks, my gp friends advice was take paracetamol if it doesn't go away, or returns as soon as the meds wear off contact 111 (assuming there's not an obvious cause eg hangover!) it's actually not an ordinary headache I was told either but they are being cautious and advising any unexplained persistent headache

Bubalie · 02/05/2021 08:59

Note how the BBC article says 4 days to ‘few weeks’. Thanks so much BBC that really helps my hypochondria and counting down the days since I had the vaccine Grin

AliceBlueGown · 02/05/2021 09:15

Risk of 1 in 250,000

Totalbeach · 02/05/2021 09:18

@AliceBlueGown No, it’s more than that now.

4 - 28 days OP basically because that’s the window people have had them in. A man in Australia had one after 26 days I think but most were more like 14.

wtftodo · 02/05/2021 09:27

I spoke to a Dr when I attended the vaccine clinic, because I have a higher background risk of clotting. I was told 4 days to two months, with most occurring in the first three weeks.

ElfInSheepsClothing · 02/05/2021 10:08

What level of headache do they class as an issue? Had it last Monday and some achey ropey side effect and tiredness, sometimes felt wired, but I powered through, went to work part time.

Mild short lived headaches started on Thursday. I went out walking and doing things half the day yesterday, trying to work out if today's headache / body ache which isn't helped with paracetamol or ibu is overdoing it when still dealing with vaccine more of an issue.

Thought I'd take it easy today and drink lots and see how I am tomorrow?

Emma2021 · 02/05/2021 10:17

Good morning

This subject is not really discussed because of a couple of reasons and we can see the reasons here on this thread. IE, 4 days is clear but then the confusion between, up to 20, 28 days and a first time of a few months. They don't know as they are not sure why it's happening.

until they know why, we won't get a timeline, detailed, robust one.

I want to know and the talk it affect the younger group but figures are simlar up to 50 but then more were jabbed.

someone here posts its a 1 in 250k chance, no its not as it is approx 1 in 120k i read and the figure may go up.

the more info we get, the better as people will then make a more informed decision. i also feel its only a matter of time before the under 40's are offered an alternative.

is anyone aware if there are clots with pifzer or any other big medical events with it?

in the scheme of things, on balance, especially if you are older, the jab is the way forward but you have a right to be cautious, etc.

Thank you

wtftodo · 02/05/2021 10:28

@ElfInSheepsClothing the vaccine clinic Dr told me “a sudden, severe headache that you haven’t had before”. I then called 111 on day 6 as I had an unusual symptom abd they were v thorough - their checklist was “have you had a sudden severe headache as if you’ve been hit by a brick” and also asked about eyesight / blurred vision / feeling of curtains being drawn across eyes.

AliceBlueGown · 02/05/2021 14:18

@Totalbeach - latest MHRA figure is an incidence of 9.3 per million first doses of vaccine.
