Arthritis symptoms after AZ? Anybody else?

FrozenVag · 01/05/2021 22:52

I had my jab in 21thApril

Every night I have arthritic pain in different areas.

Friday - right leg felt like 👍 had arthritis in my ankle
Yesterday my left shoulder felt dislocated
Today my right thumb - I can’t even type

Anybody else?
My husband is a super fit runner and has had constant pain in his hip since jab

Anybody else had similar?

@Abraxan dh struggles throughout the day with PA too.
Op you could be developing PA and possibly the vaccine triggered in or it could be a coincidence.
DH lived with psoriasis quite happily for a number of years. The arthritis bit came much later.

PhilCornwall1 · 10/05/2021 05:07

I have arthritis and since my first Jab at the beginning of April I have had a terrible flare up. It's psoriatic arthritis and my psoriasis on my skin has also been freaked. It could of course just be correlation.

I have RA (not well controlled) and it flared up badly after my first jab, was still having a bad flare when it was time for the second. I almost didn't have the second one, but in the end I did. I'm regretting it to be honest, as it just feels like I'm trapped in a never ending flare and eating codeine like Smarties.

I've got an F2F appointment with my Rheumatologist this week, as I told him the issue I am facing on a phone consultation and he said he needs to see me.

This has put me right off having any booster, should they say it's needed.

FrozenVag · 10/05/2021 09:57
Shock

I won’t be having any booster, that’s for sure

I saw my Rheumatologist in between the vaccines. I told him about the flare which lasted 6 weeks but I didn't mention the vaccine other than to tell him I had not made antibodies. My RA is not well controlled so I still think it may not be connected.
I had my 2nd dose 3 weeks ago and this time I have had fatigue but not swollen joints and pain.
Either way I feel that if I had caught covid it would all be ten times worse because infection of any kind is one of my big triggers. Sets off arrythmia as well.
I also know that I didn't make antibodies for at least 6 weeks, possibly because of the auto immune drugs I take so all the more reason to get any booster I am offered.

FrozenVag · 11/05/2021 01:12

Can somebody tell me what to do please

My hands are in a c shape, I can’t straighten them, I can’t sleep because they’re throbbing so much despite loads of ibruprofen

I didn’t have a shower yesterday because i was scared I wouldn’t be able to support myself if I slipped for some reason

I can’t get dr appointment (gonna try bupa tomorrow)

I also have cold symptoms now so really don’t want to go to a&e

What do I do?

Were you not advised to stop taking them before and after your vaccinations, @Kyph? I'm on Humira, and had a letter from the NHS Trust.

FromHereToModernity · 11/05/2021 01:30

@FrozenVag, I honestly don't know. I was like this for much of last spring and summer till I went on some serious immune-suppressant medication. In the meantime I was put on zapain, naproxen and physio.

If you need to see or speak to a doctor it's supposedly dial 111 these days.

I didn't get a thing about it. GP told me it wouldn't be an issue taking it at all, so whacked it in the day before, on my normal day.

Have since been told by someone who actually knows (Rheumatologist), that this shouldn't have been done. Would have been useful if Rheumatology had written to patients on biologics I guess.

FromHereToModernity · 11/05/2021 07:58

@PhilCornwall1, oh god, another postcode lottery ... So some biologics patients got advice, some didn't, it looks like. Not great. My letter says to (effectively) miss a dose or two around the vaccination (to try to optimise its effects).

Mind you, I've recently had dose #2 of the AZ and I'm not sure if I'd want to optimise its effects much further - I feel bloody awful.

No I wasn't, but in any case you can't just stop taking steroids, it would make you very ill, very quickly. I could have stopped the other drugs for a few days but a) they stay in your system for up to 3 months and b) they probably have less impact on vaccine than steroids. Some research done in US seemed to show that prednisolone, even at small doses impaired vaccine effect more than some of the stronger immunosuppressents.
Fixitup2 · 11/05/2021 18:01

Slightly different here as I had long Covid and a flare up in my joint/arthritic pains after 1st AZ jab. I’ve had absolutely no side effects after 2nd one at all.

Also, not that it’s helpful most of the side effects I see posts about are very mild covid/long Covid symptoms so the benefit of the vaccine to me still outweighs the risk of Covid.

FrozenVag · 11/05/2021 22:41

Well the go I consulted basically thought it was just a huge coincidence

I’m not really buying it but whatever got an rheumatologist appointment on Monday

For once I have a resonable excuse for my typos 🙄

That's good you have a rheumatologist appointment - don't let them pummel you about too much during the examination. I did and I couldn't sleep for a week because of the pain.

It was the dermatology consultant who first wrote 'psoriatic arthritis' in my notes while rheumatology were still humming and hahing, and the dermatology consultant who prescribed Humira which made a huge difference to the debilitating joint pain.

MBlaze · 11/05/2021 23:49

I had the Pfizer jab, not AZ, but I have also had pain and stiffness in my joints since the jab.

Have you reported it via the yellow card scheme?

I'm seeing my Rheumatologist tomorrow, so will be interested to see what he's got to say. He can take his pick on inflamed joints to have a squeeze about with. Just hope he doesn't do it too hard.
Zippea · 12/05/2021 05:01

I’ve had a flare up since the AZ vaccine. It’s been two weeks and really hope it passes soon

StopTheRainNow · 16/05/2021 18:59

I broke my leg badly well over a decade ago, my knee joint was affected.

My leg is fine generally (I've been very active ever since, for all these years, with zero pain) but since my AZ jab a month ago my leg has been awful! I'm hobbling with the pain some days, my knee feels unstable, and having given it a few weeks I'm about to request a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon.

I certainly have arthritis in my knee after my accident/surgery so it's reassuring that others have had flare ups. I can't carry on like this though, it feels like it did when I first started to weight bear on it all those years ago.

FrozenVag · 16/05/2021 20:10

Hi

I have my rheumatologist appointment tomorrow morning

Just wondering what I can ask for there and then for pain management. Do they every do steroid shots eg? I’m worn out with this and Hoping they’ll offer me something. Any ideas?

StopTheRainNow · 16/05/2021 20:17

No idea as I'm new to this but best of luck with your appointment @FrozenVag.

shewalkslikerihanna · 16/05/2021 21:32

@FrozenVag

I’m really suffering tonight and all I did was drill a couple of holes for a curtain pole

I’m now in loads of pain

It seems to come on every night, something different hurts

I feel like I’ve brought arthritis or tendinitis on myself

Not me, but my friend said she was fine after her AZ In the second breath told me how much her arthritis had flared and how much pain she was in.
shewalkslikerihanna · 16/05/2021 21:33

@FrozenVag
I’m so sorry you are still struggling.
I hope they can help you

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 16/05/2021 21:38

Interesting - only mentioned to a friend today that I keep walking up with stiff sore fingers. I'm 10 weeks post first AZ vaccination.
