When are children's birthday parties allowed? Can't find anything...

My son's 6th birthday is 1st June. I'd like to have a party for him. What kind of party or gathering wi be allowed then? Do we have any idea?
Entertainers seem to only be booking parties from July, but I was under the impression that we could have a garden party from 17th May.
Can anyone clear this up for me?

30 outside allowed from 17th May. So yo7 can get an entertainer and have a garden party

ThisMustBeMyDream · 01/05/2021 21:43

That was my impression, but the entertainers seem to have other ideas. Argh!

You can have a garden party now but the numbers would be very very limited, 6 in total including supervising and entertainer. I think gatherings of up to 30 are allowed outside from May 17th, not sure about inside - that's likely to go to rule of six or two households inside till the June date.

At the moment its not clear whether social distancing will still be required for friends and family after 17th May. If it IS required then maybe entertainers don't want to take part in garden parties where there is unlikely to be social distancing?

We should know on Monday about social distancing I think.

Have you actually tried contacting people or just read whats on their website? If you give them a ring they may be able to explain the logic.

What about something like a bouncy castle hire which doesn't require a person?

RosieLemonade · 02/05/2021 08:11

I had an entertainer last Sunday!

DanglingMod · 02/05/2021 08:13

You can have a party now but can only be one parent, one entertainer and four children or one parent and five children.

DancesWithDaffodils · 02/05/2021 08:17

We are having a party today.
DS1 and DH are getting booted out of the house.
DS2 is having four friends round in the garden.
I'm hoping some footballs and then pizza and cake will keep them occupied, but I'm VERY concerned about rain.

Anyone “working”‘at an event or gathering don’t count towards the limit. So the entertainer wouldn’t count in rule of 6 at the moment or 30 after May 17th

Been having parties since last year. Never stopped. Was my dd 3rd birthday on saturday and we have a bouncy castle on hire for the week. My eldest ds was at a party yesterday for one of his class mates.

Alfaix · 03/05/2021 11:43

If you book an activity party, that is allowed now as children’s activities have restarted.
Otherwise after 17th May as long as it’s outside.

HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 03/05/2021 11:45

Soft play are doing parties of up to 15 children (and 15 adults).

Outside?
HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 03/05/2021 11:45

From May 17th

Frazzled2207 · 03/05/2021 12:34

we are doing a party at the very end of May for DS (6) and six friends. This should be perfectly legal outside. However if it rains we will be indoors. Yes will be breaking the rules but the children are together all day at school anyway. Have explained this to parents and said that if they don't feel comfortable with it I totally understand.
Yes you can theoretically do up to 30 but I decided against 'whole class' as inevitably some stragglers would turn up and I didn't want it to be a public health risk!

Alfaix · 03/05/2021 12:43

I’ve booked DS a gaming bus party in June, 12 of them and apparently it’s ok as it is an organised activity.
Food hopefully in the garden but if it rains will be in the double garage with the doors open.

Feelingconfused2020 · 03/05/2021 17:26

I suspect the reason party entertainers aren't booking for may/June is because he is yet to confirm the plan is going ahead so while we're all expecting it to be 17th may he could change it. Once that announcement has been made I'm sure you'll find someone

I think the OP was looking for how to comply with restrictions not how to list how how you havent
Hellocatshome · 03/05/2021 18:57

My DS had a laser tag party a few days ago, it was outside in a laintballnlocation but using laser guns like laser quest. I dont know the exact criteria it was allowed under but its a big national.company and had it plastered all over their website that paintball/laser tag was allowed. We had 10 children including DS, no parents stayed tho.

OutspokenNotThatFunny · 03/05/2021 19:14

Just book something for home. Pref outdoors.
But like a pp I've know loads of kids having parties throughout indoors and out. Sleepovers, bouncy castles. Face painting. Entertainers.
