If you've had covid and 1st vaccine are you getting the second?

I had Covid at Christmas and have had my first vaccine (no side effects). I'm debating whether to get the second dose - how many antibodies does one need? For context - I'm young, fit and healthy.
I'm more inclined to get the second jab but have some doubt. I understand me having the second covid jab gives protection to others too but for instance I've never had the flu jab. Interested to hear what others are doing and why.

Had Covid last year. Had my first jab (AZ) at start of March, having second next week.

dottiedaisee · 30/04/2021 21:04

Yes ,had my second vaccine today.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 30/04/2021 21:07

Yes will get my second jab in July even though I feel pretty shocking after having my first yesterday. I don’t know if I have antibodies from having covid or if I have, how long they will last so happy to get the vaccine, however crap it’s made me feel.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 30/04/2021 21:07

My friend had covid earlier last year and was positive for antibodies and then negative within three months so they don’t necessarily stick around.

roses2 · 30/04/2021 21:08

I had covid in Feb and my first does today. I'm getting my second jab to enable travel! Without it you'll be paying hefty test fees.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 30/04/2021 21:08

Of course, why wouldn't you?

Puffler · 30/04/2021 21:08

Not sure why I wouldn’t.

It’s given on the basis of two doses. Two doses helps protect others. If you want to go abroad you’ll probably need to show you’ve had both doses. I literally can’t understand the reason to skip the second?

Drowninginwashing · 30/04/2021 21:10

I'm a bit confused about your comment on the flu jab - this honestly is not snidy or a dig, I just genuinely don't understand the relevance to your decision on the covid jab. The risks involved and the prevelance are just totally different.

In answer to your question yes, I have had covid and my first jab and will be having the second. This is what scientists have recommended and I trust their knowledge, which is superior to my own on this subject.

rainbowthoughts · 30/04/2021 21:16

The flu jab is completely separate and irrelevant.

I have had both. Got the second AZ last week.

rainbowthoughts · 30/04/2021 21:17

I actually feel that people who get the first but don't bother with the second have just wasted a vaccine.

Lampshade685 · 30/04/2021 21:18

Ok ignore the flu jab comment. I am mostly leaning towards getting it just a friend has been planting seeds of doubt about if I actually need it seen as I've had Covid.

Yes

JMAngel1 · 30/04/2021 21:35

I had covid in December then got 1st AZ vaccine at end of March I was violently ill for 6 days afterwards. It was almost as bad as my covid infection.
My 2nd dose is due in June and I'm absolutely dreading it - can't face being that ill again.
I was considering asking for an antibody assay at end of May to see if I really need the 2nd dose - not sure if this will be possible.

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 30/04/2021 21:36

Despite having awful side effects from 1st jab and having a chronic illness that exacerbated these even more, yes, I will be getting 2nd jab. It's been extremely widely publicised that the fullest protection only occurs after both jabs, so I genuinely can't think of any reason why someone wouldn't have 2nd, regardless of whether you're old, young, fit, have had covid or otherwise.

OrchidLass · 30/04/2021 21:40

I had my second last Saturday. Side effects from the first were horrible but absolutely nothing with this one. I've also had CoVID but there's little point in getting the first if you aren't going to bother with the second.

Lampshade685 · 30/04/2021 21:46

Just to be clear I am pretty sure I'll have my second jab but in layman's terms - could having Covid in the first place followed by a jab give me similar antibodies to not having Covid and 2 jabs? Or is it because it is unknown whether I had antibodies from having Covid but will have them from the jab?

Had mine on Wednesday (pfizer). Sore upper arm and that's it.

rainbowthoughts · 30/04/2021 21:51

I imagine if this were the case not only would be r know about it but it would implemented countrywide.

reluctantbrit · 30/04/2021 21:51

As nobody knows how long antibodies are in your system I will definitely get my second jab.

I had AZ two weeks ago and felt worse than when I actually had Covid in winter but 24 hours later I was fine. Side effects for no. 2 are less intense I heard.

It's a price I am happy to pay as they aren't enough people to test everybody's antibody levels prior to the jab.

Possibly but we don’t have the data for that yet. I’m having my second jab to make sure.
RiderGirl · 30/04/2021 21:53

I had covid in March 2020. I work in the NHS, had my 2nd jab a couple of weeks ago. Being honest I'd worried about side effects of 2nd jab after hearing colleagues saying it had given them a massive headache/feeling rubbish, but can genuinely say I felt fine after the second jab! I'd had doubts about having the jab as I'd already had covid but felt under pressure to have it anyway because of where I work - I'm glad I did now.

OrchidLass · 30/04/2021 21:54

Well if this were thought to be the case, anyone who had confirmed CoVID would only be advised to have 1 vaccination.

LadyofMisrule · 30/04/2021 22:12

I've had both. Why wouldn't you?

Anon778833 · 30/04/2021 22:12

100% yes. I feel so lucky that we are in a position to get vaccinated here.

Figgyboa · 30/04/2021 22:14

I had covid in January, getting my second vaccine next week. They don't really know how long antibodies from having covid last.
