Which vaccine? SW London

Hi
I’m currently pregnant and intend to breastfeed. Am 36 and would prefer not to have the AZ vaccine. Is there anyway of finding out which vaccine I’d get prior to booking? Anyone in SW London/ Surrey and got the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine please and share the test centre please ? Thanks.

AFC Wimbledon has been doing Moderna. I suspect they'll be upping the age limit for AZ today anyway.

DollyParton2 · 30/04/2021 08:29

Thanks Queen. My DH had his there so I am aware but sadly its not showing as a test centre available to book right now... I'll keep checking back I guess? I hadn't heard this re. AZ- there will be an announcement today?

They met yesterday. Given the increase in clots and the current low case numbers I'll be amazed if they don't increase the age limit.

TheChineseChicken · 30/04/2021 09:32

Interesting, I wonder if they will increase it. Selfishly I hope they don't cut-off at 39 as I am 40 and booked to have my jab next week! I know that haematologists have been lobbying the MHRA to increase the cut-off to 50 but I can't see that happening - there would be outcry among all the under-50s who have recently been jabbed.

joyam · 30/04/2021 09:48

I wonder how they can increase it though when Wales has already moved to over 30s?
Also, given that they don't have supply of anything else, doesn't that leave the 30s-40s unvaccinated for a lot longer?

I agree, I think the horse has bolted. Now some many over 40s have been vaccinated with AZ it would be very controversial to now restrict its use in this age group. And of course a fair proportion of over 30s will have been vaccinated for various reasons.
TheChineseChicken · 30/04/2021 09:56
  • Now so many over 40s
Florelei · 30/04/2021 09:57

Yeah I’m 37 and have had both AZ jabs.

Florelei · 30/04/2021 09:57

Sorry pressed send too soon. I suppose it just depends on what the data says and what the risks are.

MRex · 30/04/2021 09:58

If you're pregnant then your GP should arrange through the CCG for you to get jabbed at a clinic that offers Pfizer. So best to contact your GP rather than waste efforts trying sites that might not have it on the day.

nether · 30/04/2021 09:58

Pfizer is earmarked for second doses, and even those who have GP-endorsed medical reasons to have only that jab (the only one licenced for under 18s) are facing long waits

doomonic · 30/04/2021 09:59

I read that the age cut off in the UK should be raised as the R rate is low now.
I'm in 30s & had 1 az jab.

Did your DH have Moderna OP? Do you know if he booked his second appointment at the same time as he booked the first? I’m going to AFC Wimbledon next week and am also hoping for Moderna. I’ve got an 11 week gap between the appointments and am wondering if that suggests one vaccine over another.

Cookerhood · 30/04/2021 10:45

The 11 week gap is no indication

Countrylane · 30/04/2021 10:49

AZ isn't recommended for pregnant women - only Moderna and Pfizer. The MP Stella Creasy has been raising this issue on Twitter with Nadhim Zahawi - that pregnant women need to know they won't be offered AZ because it's a waste of everyone's time and vaccine.

DollyParton2 · 30/04/2021 10:51

Apply yes he had Moderna there and has booked in to return there too... just annoying I can’t get an appointment there too!

Countrylane do you know if it’s the same re. breastfeeding women with AZ by any chance? Thanks

@dollyparton2 I don't sorry. Check NICE? I have a feeling you can have any vaccine while BF though, so don't think it will help you not get AZ.

MRex · 30/04/2021 10:59

No, only pregnancy. You might also consider the immediate post-partum 6-8 weeks as not being a good time for and vaccine though because there is a general increased clotting risk in that time.
