If you have HAD covid, how did you find the vaccine side effects?

I'm not doubting having the vaccine, but read something about people having more / worse side effects of you've actually had covid?
How have your side effects been if you'd definitely had covid previously?

I had covid in October - pretty ill, had complications, needed hospital treatment, longer term effects ongoing 6 months later.

Had Pfizer in February - sore arm, pain under arm bit (gland) and a bit of a headache. Headache lasted about half a day. Sore arm/pit lasted a bit longer but anti inflammatory meds sorted it. Had far worse reactions from my annual flu jab before now.

Second vaccine due in May.

HairyFloppins · 29/04/2021 19:46

Dh was hospitalised with covid in dec and he had AZ a few weeks back. It floored him for two days. He’s older than me though so I haven’t had my jab yet.

Hilarysides · 29/04/2021 19:50

I had it in dec and felt a bit tired after my first az. The side effects seem very random as to who they hit!

Jellifer · 29/04/2021 19:52

I had the AZ last weds and felt a little cold that night. I was concerned as I’d read the same but the next day all I had was a slightly sore arm. A lot better than I expected !

ParticularlyThistle · 29/04/2021 19:53

Both me and dp had Covid (dp worse than me).

We both had AZ in the morning. By bed time, I was fluey and had a temperature. Next day (day2) I was wiped out and half worked half slept. Day3 I was fine to work but cancelled going out for dinner. Day 4 I was totally fine.

Dp got no side effects whatsoever - not even a sore arm!

Of all the people I know who've had the jab and what I've read on here suggests that too. There is no way to predict with any certainty how an individual will feel

Expect and plan for the worst

Had covid in March 20, confirmed with an antibody test in May 20 and was still antibody positive when I had the jab in March 21
No real symptoms other than loss of taste and a mild headache

Post jab felt like a bad hangover or mild flu for 36 hours, just generally quite weak
Nothing awful in the grand scheme of things, but definitely felt more ill after the jab than with covid

RainOnMe3 · 29/04/2021 21:30

Covid in November, only mild symptoms
But then had long covid. Pfizer vaccine in January felt "off" for 24 hours, had paracetamol and went to bed and felt fine the next day. The second shot was fine - didn't even know I had had it. I'm 37 year old female

CrunchyCarrot · 30/04/2021 07:06

DP had very mild Covid last July. Was ill with temp and fatigue for a couple of days. He had the first jab a month ago and had a milder version of his symptoms for a day or so.

YoutubeZoom · 30/04/2021 07:19

I did not have Covid, but I had side effects of the vaccine for 2 days. It was not as bad as flu though, but exhausting.

Icequeen01 · 30/04/2021 07:25

12 of us at work caught Covid in early January with 2 of us being pretty poorly. We all had our first vaccination (through work) in the middle of February and all but one of us felt pretty grotty for 2 days. We had another member of staff who didn't catch Covid when the rest of us did and she was really poorly with side effects for a week and had to go sick from work.

I've got my second jab on Sunday and I'm keeping my fingers crossed the side effects won't be so bad this time.

Cluckadoodledoo75 · 30/04/2021 07:25

I had Covid in December, was very ill for 5 weeks, ended up in hospital etc. I've had both my Pfizer jabs now and was quite unwell with both, especially the second one. It felt like I had Covid again although obviously not as severe but unwell enough to not be fit for work for 3/4 days with a temperature, severe migraine, fatigue, sickness and lack of taste and smell - I'm glad I'm done now it's fair to say 😁

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 30/04/2021 07:26

My mum had covid in December, has had both her vaccines (AZ) now, and her only side effects for either were a sore arm.

Lindy2 · 30/04/2021 07:30

I had Covid in January and my vaccine 7 weeks after testing positive.

I was pretty ill with Covid. Not hospitalized or needing medical help but generally feeling like rubbish for 3 weeks.

I had the shivers and sweats after my vaccine. I felt hungover for around 2 days.

Having Covid was much worse than the vaccine side effects.

JimBobNoJob · 02/05/2021 07:39

I suspect I had COVID at the very start of the fist lockdown, but you couldn’t get tested then so don’t actually know. Just had moderna on Friday I feel like death warmed up today.

Just felt a bit stuffy headed and had chills last night before bed, woke several times during the night with a fever and raging thirst. I’ve only had 4 hours sleep.I’m aching all over, my stomach feels ropey, mild headache and fuzzy headed. I can’t physically lift my arm. That’s actually the worst bit.

I had to prop my arm on a cushion to sleep as it’s fucking agony, couldn’t turn over and struggled to get out of bed, am having to do everything one handed. Had to get Dh to tie my hair back as couldn’t manage!

But as I don’t know if I’ve had COVID or not I don’t know if I would have had side effects anyway.

I know two people who def had COVID one had Az who had bad side effects the other had Pfizer had none apart from a sore arm.

Vanillaradio · 02/05/2021 13:44

Had Covid in August- no symptoms at all just positive test. Had first injection in Feb- sore arm only. Second injection next week- will see!

PuzzledObserver · 02/05/2021 21:31

Had Covid end of December into January - cough and v fatigued for 2 weeks, then another 2-3 weeks of steady improvement before back to normal.

1st jab (Pfizer) mid-Feb. Felt a bit tired and slightly headachey for a couple of days, plus localised tenderness, redness, swelling at the injection site for a week.

2nd jab last week. Mild headache and tiredness for 1 day, slight tenderness at injection site for a few days.

So despite them saying that people who have had Covid get worse side effects and that the 2nd Pfizer jab is worse than the first - it was pretty much a non-event, really.

Suzysuz · 07/05/2021 13:37

Thanks all, I had covid at Christmas which was awful for about 3 weeks, thankfully no hospital/intervention needed.

Had my jab on Wednesday, ended up as Pfizer as that's just what they were doing on the day, felt bit achy, little temperature yesterday but doing fine now 👍

Now reading that for some people it's the SECOND Pfizer jab that gives you the worse symptoms 🤦🏼‍♀️😁

But overall it just seems a complete mix mash and different for everyone, doesn't it?

Was very impressed at the organisation at the vaccine centre, felt rather proud of all the people working hard and coming up with the people-flow systems and keeping us moving 😊
