Crispy, sore lips caused by masks

Does anyone else get swelling, soreness and lesions from masks? It's happened since I've worn one, GP thought it was impetigo at one point. Recently started an activity that requires masking for longer periods of time than used to and lips are really flaring up again.

Might it be fungal spores causing it? Inside a damp mask in the dark would be perfect growing conditions, and I'm a mouth breather Blush so it would be nice and moist in there for spores Envy.

Have just bought a silk mask to see if that helps, but I'm really inclined to think it's the humidity around my lips that's causing the roughness/soreness (also had acute soreness around nose after I've been masked for a long time).

I'll be so happy the day I ditch these fuckers.

If you’re slathering on Carmex that could be the issue. A lot of lip balms are pretty shite and you don’t really need them but Carmex had loads of irritants (menthol for example) and other ingredients that actively makes your lips drier. Ditch the lip balm for a few weeks I bet you see an improvement.

How fucking rude are you!

Not showering three times a day, as lots of people on here claim to do, isn't having "poor hygiene".

Christ how hysterical are you?! OP literally said she is laxer than most with her hygiene and @JaniieJones pointed out daily cleansing (not three times daily like your hyperbolic post stated) may help wash away irritants and bacteria from her skin. If you don’t understand hygiene that’s ok you, but suggesting washing your face daily when the op openly admitted she was lax with hygiene isn’t rude. You on the other hand...

Hard to imagine it (pic please), but I spent most of January with a sudocreme face mask on, and it’s helped my skin no end. Maybe put some on before bed. Honestly, I had low level angry, veiny, spotty skin (roasacea, maybe) but sudocreme clears it.

I used to get terrible dry lips in the winter which would crack and bleed and also wouldn’t heal. The only thing that worked was vitamin e oil, I’d break open the capsules and smother my lips 3-4 times a day Healed within days.
Might be worth a try.

The only issue I have had with the masks is spots, but I’m also putting that down to my hormones as well so can’t blame masks entirely but it certain doesn’t help!

Elizabeth Arden Skin Protectorant is brilliant for sore skin/lips/rashes.
Try washing your face with a very gentle face wash and applying that before you put your mask on and put on a clean mask each time.
Hope it helps, I know it's very annoying to have a sore mouth/lips.

I have really sore, dry lips a lot of the time. My recent discovery is Lansinoh - it's amazing on sore lips.

Masks haven't made them any worse or better.

I only wear masks for shopping but do find my lips and face feel sore afterwards and I also get a sore throat. My children have to wear them for jobs/school and they have all got loads of spots around their chin and mouth now.

Inthesameboatatmo · 01/05/2021 06:50

The leniege (sp) lip sleeping mask is excellent, I've suffered most of my life with cracked dry sensitive lips to the point I cant wear most lipsticks because I have a reaction.
This is by far the best thing I have ever used, not that cheap but I've got full lips and a little really does go a long way

DS2 is really struggling, he's prone to sore chapped lips anyway, but having to wear masks a lot at school seems to be making them far worse. I haven't found a magic balm yet so watching this thread with interest!
