Instead of 12 - I thought it was meant to be 12? Does it matter?

I had this as I was group 6 and vaccinated via my Go surgery.

I wanted to wait until 12 weeks so logged on and booked my second at 12 weeks via the national booking - does mean it’s at a bigger vaccine centre as opposed to the local hub where I had my first

Florelei · 29/04/2021 15:09

I had my second 8 weeks and 1 day after the first. I had the same concerns but from what I could find online it is 8-12 weeks as the optimal time between doses. I hope so anyway.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to help us!

Mine was at my GPs -9 weeks 5 days

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/04/2021 15:16

DH's was 10 weeks

MonkeyPuddle · 29/04/2021 15:18

Can be given from 4 weeks, 12 week interval is for operational purposes

All the trial data showed better immunity if the interval was 12 weeks. It may be convenient for them to give it at shorter intervals but I would try to book for 12.

No it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't go over 12 weeks any time between 3 and 12 is fine. People can be called earlier if clinics have doses spare to use.

LIZS · 29/04/2021 19:13

Dh just had his second at 8+ weeks.

But there was a lot of big news that effaiciy at 12 weeks was greater than at 4. We booked for 12 but could not take the suspense and took at 10.5 weeks as we were getting calls from the gp around the time of the clots news. The first time we said no and second time they rang a few days later we accepted for a same day jab about 30 mins after the call. The gp practice was in full swing but lately I've read more people are putting of their second AZ jabs

We need more info from this secretive government but i guess the pm is too busy at B&Q choosing curtain poles.

I had my second dose after 4 weeks. I'm in group 6 and had it done at the GP. Once they got the lists sorted of who needed priority they were amazingly efficient at getting through everyone.

The trials were done after 3 weeks, so anything after 3 weeks is fine.

This is what I've found on az spacing.

I agree that phizer was trialled at 3 weeks but AZ was trialled at various intervals, 12 weeks being the longest. The immune response was best in the 12 week gap.
So while there is nothing wrong with a shorter gap, 12 weeks will give better immunity.
This may not matter for everyone but why wouldn't you want the best possible level of immunity?
I am part of a trial on vaccine antibodies. I had zero at 6 weeks and then at ten weeks I tested positive for antibodies.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 29/04/2021 19:39

I’m pretty sure that the NHS guidance letter to GPs stated ‘no sooner than 8 weeks’ after first dose. Think that was dated March, so presumably they have data that shows that period is effective. If I can find it again I’ll link to it.

Dementedswan · 29/04/2021 20:06

Dh parents had theirs 9 weeks apart.

ShrinkingViolet9 · 01/05/2021 10:12

I had my second dose of A-Z this week (10 weeks and 3 days since the initial dose).

PurplePumpkinDream · 01/05/2021 10:20

At the beginning of vaccinations people worried if the jabs weren’t done within 4 weeks now they worry if they are done less than 12 weeks. I guess a lot is operational, I didn’t see as many people attending for the second jab than there were for the first, but it could just have been that particular slot.
