Need the vaccine for my new job

I have recently started a new job and need the vaccine. My employer has said they'll arrange it for me so I don't have to do anything. Has anyone else been in this position and if so how long do they take to give the appointment? I'm absolutely petrified of needles and need to psych myself up plus organise a lift because I'm so useless with needles I know I'll faint so I don't want to drive myself. Also does it make a difference what one you get if you have a penicillin allergy? I should add I'm in the private health sector not NHS if that makes a difference when it comes to booking.

Penicillin allergy is not an issue. Don't know about the rest.

Alex908 · 28/04/2021 20:44

I thought you couldn’t have the pziser with a penicillin allergy?

JaninaDuszejko · 28/04/2021 22:01

You can't have the Pfizer vaccine if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Penicillin is not an ingredient.

beginningoftheend · 28/04/2021 22:04

You should declare any allergy and they will advise you. They will ask 'are you allergic to anything' and if they don't tell them anyway. So that is one thing ticked off the list.

Good luck!

All bookings are through the NHS.

WhirlingGerbil · 28/04/2021 22:35

If you're in the uk, employers can't book the vaccine, only you, when your turn comes.

Tell them you're needle phobic when you get there and they will support you. I had a bed in the corner with a screen around it but it was so quick and I hardly felt a thing so not so worried about my second.good luck

Penicillin allergy not an issue. Although they did made me and a colleague sit and wait just to be on the safe side and the needles that fine you can barely even feel it.

Crabbypaddy · 28/04/2021 23:02

They can’t book a vaccine on your behalf...

Certain jobs do take priority. Health & social care.

I'm allergic to penicillin and I had my first jab today.
I used to be terribly needle phobic too, just being in a doctors surgery or a hospital used to set me off. After three children I'm not bothered anymore.
I must say, the injection today was amazing. The needle is so thin and tiny, not at all like they used to be and over with so quickly. You will be fine, be brave just for those few seconds and you will be out of there in no time.

My partner got his through work, organised fully by his employer. In Scotland.

Torvean · 29/04/2021 05:30

You can be in the private sector but not be a priority. It depends on your exact job.

The vaccines are fine. On here it seem everyone has horrible side effects. The vast majority don't.

CrazyHorse · 29/04/2021 06:20

Please don't worry about the injection- I looked to the side, so didn't even see the needle, and didn't feel it at all. I did wonder if I'd actually had it! the side effects confirmed I had. Most people only get very mild side effects.
