What’s your nursery’s policy on burst bubbles?

In terms of fees- if your child had to isolate did you a percentage of the fees?
My child is home for a wk (10days since she mixed with the infected child)- and we are being charged 65% - or refunded 35%. Is this reasonable?

No nursery I know offers any fee refund at all for this.

Same here, i'm surprised by the fee reduction.
Findahouse21 · 29/04/2021 07:50

We don't pay if the bubble bursts.

So the “refund” comes off the next invoice

My sons bubble has bursted twice. Both they’ve refund the money as a reduction In following months bills

So Ie we paid 1200 in dec
800 jan
800 feb
1200 March

OverTheRainbow88 · 29/04/2021 08:11

We don’t have to pay anything if the bubble bursts; neither do most my friends with kids in different bubbles.

I don’t think they can legally charge you anything

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/04/2021 08:54

Yeh they put “if this isn’t agreeable with you let us know” because it’s happened a second time I think a greater refund is due

We don’t get a refund if bubble bursts either, maybe if we had multiple ones they might consider it.

WaitingForNormality · 29/04/2021 09:27

No - no refund on fees for isolation/bubble bursting. I actually think that's pretty reasonable to be honest...I don't see how it would be financially viable for a nursery to operate on this basis.

Smurf123 · 29/04/2021 09:52

We don't get charged for the isolation period if a bubble bursts - refund off next months fees. Only happened once thankfully
If my child is isolating due to being a close contact from someone outside nursery then we still pay full fees for the period

HolmeH · 29/04/2021 10:32

We don’t get charged for burst bubbles. We get the 10 days knocked off next months bill.

We do get charged if DD has close contact elsewhere etc or actually catches it. We only get no charge if her whole bubble has burst. It’s happened once since last June so we aren’t doing so badly!

Covidwoes · 29/04/2021 13:24

We get charged, but you can use the days as extras. DD goes 2.5 days a week and had 5 days to take (DD isolated for 2 weeks when DH and I had Covid in November). I've used half a day so far when I had an appointment, and will use the remaining 4.5 days when I need to.

user1483473283 · 29/04/2021 13:29

We just had to pay as normal even though she wasn’t a close contact (not even in the same day!) but the room was closed for a week and half Angry

That’s shit! Least ours is based on contact

All those who have had to pay - the nursery are not legally allowed to force you to pay fees when bubbles burst and they cannot provide care.

Naturally we want to support our nurseries and allow them to be viable businesses but they should not be forcing you to pay fees. Kindly requesting a contribution to help the business is a different matter..

Figmentofimagination · 29/04/2021 15:20

My DS's bubble burst just before Easter. Because it was such a small nursery the who nursery closed. We pay weekly and they did not invoice us for that week they were closed (notified on a Saturday before Easter and closed for 10 days till the Tuesday after the Easter bank hol).
I don't know if that was because they couldn't open at all, or if was because it wasn't DS's fault (asymptomatic staff member tested positive). I don't know if it would be any different if it was DS who was ill who caused the bubble to burst, since we usually pay when he is ill.

Flev · 29/04/2021 16:11

We had to pay £10 per day when DDs bubble burst - normally just under £55 per day. They did also put up some videos of staff reading stories and some activity ideas to do whilst they were home, so it felt like they were doing their best to offer what they could.

Onedaysomedaynowadays · 29/04/2021 20:28

We didn't get a refund/discount when the bubble burst. Didn't cross my mind tbh...

MayorGoodwaysChicken · 29/04/2021 20:32

We were ‘kindly requested’ to ask for days in lieu rather than a refund. I was quite surprised, expected to have to pay full stop. It was clear from the wording that you COULD ask for a refund but tbf it would cripple our wonderful nursery financially so I was happy to just accept it as a one off. If it happened repeatedly I wouldn’t be though.
