Fantastic news. But if course mumsnet will continue to say the vaccine doesnโ€™t stop transmission at all ๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿ˜‚

Itโ€™s fantastic.

Fantastic news! So even if a person thinks they are low risk and not need a vaccine, it is useful to protects others!

I am excited to get my 2nd AZ dose next week, 10 weeks after first one!

I had my second dose of AZ a week ago. I'm so grateful to have had it. And the news about transmission is brilliant.

Itโ€™s great news!

But yes this thread wonโ€™t get much interest unfortunately and people will continue to insist the vaccines donโ€™t work against transmission. And all the other rubbish being spouted in other threads

Hopefully bumping it anyway! Thanks OP, itโ€™s always good to spread positive news. People jump on all the bad news so we need balance.

TheVampiresWife · 28/04/2021 16:56

It's brilliant news. I'm mask exempt so it makes me feel much better about not being able to wear one. I might have a massive badge made which says something like 'vaccinated, please don't shout at me' Grin

duffeldaisy · 28/04/2021 19:36

This is one thing that I think really doesn't work when proper scientists talk to the public. They'll say something like "we don't yet have evidence that the vaccine stops spread, so please still be careful" and it gets taken out of context as "It doesn't stop spread!". But they do actually mean that they're waiting for the evidence.

It's great news. I hope more people do get it because of this, then it'll be gradually harder and harder to even catch the virus if enough of us are vaccinated.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/04/2021 19:41

It's great news. I had my first dose of AZ 10 days ago so it's good to know.

ClaireUnderwoodforPresident · 28/04/2021 19:51

@BlueBlancmange how did you feel after dose 2? I felt awful after dose 1 of AZ, so hoping the 2nd time won't be as bad!

Buzzinwithbez · 28/04/2021 20:18

That's great news. I'm pleased for those that want it.

sleepwouldbenice · 28/04/2021 20:22

I think its totally brilliant news. But a slight correction is that its up to half

I am only saying this before all the anti vaxxers pile on and accuse you of allsorts

It really is brilliant to see a way out of this

I felt fine. I felt feverish and achey for about 36 hours after the first one, but nothing apart from a bit of a sore arm after this one.

Vallmo47 · 28/04/2021 21:20

Fantastic isnโ€™t it. Grin

Itโ€™s actually better than it sounds. This reduction is in addition to the reduced chance of getting infected in the first place, which the article describes as a 2/3rds reduction after one dose. So an individual is about 1/6 as likely to catch and then pass on the infection after a single dose than an unvaccinated person.
bumbleymummy · 28/04/2021 21:54

Unvaccinated doesn't necessarily mean that someone is not immune. There was a study back in march (iirc) that showed that previously infected people are also less likely to transmit the virus.

In fairness though I can see why not much effort is made to correct that. If people arenโ€™t comprehending the โ€˜waiting for evidenceโ€™ bit then allowing the interpretation that it doesnโ€™t stop transmission results in better infection control habits generally.

The numbers will speak for themselves eventually. If I was a scientist Iโ€™d take that until I was certain with a good degree of probability no matter who slagged me off afterwards.
